The gritty, grimey setting is part of Cyberpunk.
>>
>>339834387
That's what I said
>>
>>339834048
That's not cyberpunk, that's like oppressive utopia.
>>
>>339834048
That's not a type of cyberpunk. The punk part of the term is important.

It's just generally futuristic/utopian.
>>
>>339834048
it's called motion sickness.

Post-cyberpunk, and I'm not making this up.

Near-future dystopia

Clean-dystopia

Sterile-dystopia
>>
Probably not cyberpunk. Just utopian
>>
>>339835330
>Classic cyberpunk characters were marginalized, alienated loners who lived on the edge of society in generally dystopic futures where daily life was impacted by rapid technological change, an ubiquitous datasphere of computerized information, and invasive modification of the human body

It comes close but not quite

Utopian-dystopia

nice try faggot, it attempts to download a virus but fortunately due to my norton antivirus protection software- it just works! I was protected from harm
>>
>>339834823
But it's not utopian. It's an oppressive corporate-run surveillance state.

First ME came close, the reboot is well past it.

Actually that sounds quite utopian.

holy fucking shit why is alex so fucking bad at video games. why is this allowed. this makes me mad
>>
>>339834458
No, you asked what type of cyberpunk. It simply isn't cyberpunk.

Its actually just futuristic.
>>
>>339836671
Are you drunk?
>>
>>339834048
The word you are looking for is futuristic.
Cyberpunk is cyber and punk. With just cyber shit, it's a sci fi future fantasy. With just punk trash, it's an unmodded Bethesda game.

Cyberpunk is more than an aesthetic. But even then ME can get quite close sometimes.

>dragonpunk is not a genre
Why
>>
>>339834048
I suppose that the fact that this dystopia seems inhuman/sterile makes it a kind of cyberpunk police state. Every city has grime, and where that is you'll find the punks of this clean society. It is a cyberpunk dystopia in its own way, seeing as how Faith is our anti-establishment protagonist. It would mostly depend on her motivation. Is she in this to save the world, or just herself?
>>
>>339834048
It's called generic futuristic sci-fi.
>>
>>339836861
>There a name for this type of cyberpunk

Can this cyberpunk meme finally end now? It's fucking shit and literally for fedora tipping autists.
>>
>>339834048
cyberpunk doesn't define 'dirty', cyberpunk defines futuristic and in this case it's just as much cyberpunk as Deus Ex, the difference is they're lazy to animate and optimize particles so everything is clean and prerendered.
>>
>>339838751
>the difference is they're lazy to animate and optimize particles so everything is clean and prerendered.
Or maybe, just maybe... It's a stylistic choice. I know, it's shocking
>>
>>339838751
>cyberpunk doesn't define 'dirty'
Yes it does, the punk is there for a reason.
>>
Just make it easier on yourselves and call it sci-fi

Its embarrassing watching people trip over themselves with all these silly labels, just like in music
>>
>>339839319
The punk comes from how its about rag tag groups of people squaring off against nearly omnipotent authority figures, in the case of cyberpunk its corporations. Please learn what words mean before you use the you fucking faggot
>>
>>339839932
Cyberpunk = high tech low life. Low life is dirty. Retard.
>>
>>339837773
I've already conceded it isn't cp and I'm seriously starting to believe you are mentally retarded
>>
>>339840225
lol ok champ whatever you say.
>>
>>339839083
Yeah and it's good choice, I would live in city like that provided they would left me with few degenerate things, but still doesn't change definition of cyberpunk and then omnipotent corporation/governments wouldn't give a shit about shiny and clean city but about their own shiny and clean homes, you can't keep city that clean unless you invent paint that can't be dirtied (but then you would have dirty as fuck floors).
>>
>>339840225
>low life is dirty

you can life low live and not being smelly dirty homeless you know?
>>
>>339840273
You never actually admitted it wasn't cyberpunk. But yeah, it's just clean futuristic.
>>
>>339840381
Then you're not living a low life.
>>
>>339834048
This particular style is called PS1 game graphics
>>
>>339840548
My wage is 2.5€/h, is that high or even mid life? If not then I'm living proof you can be clean low lifer.

>>
>>339836182
That aesthetic where everything is clean looking, sterile and modern is part of the imagery people think of when they think utopia. That the utopia is actually a shithole is just another common cliche involved in utopias.
>>
>>339840858
So if you're living a low life, what life is a homeless person living?
>>
>>339840858
doesn't britbongland have minimum wage?
>>
>>339834048
word you're looking for is dystopia
>>
>>339834048
it falls into 'Utopian and dystopian fiction". where utopian is a sub genre of dystopian or specifically false utopian.
>>
>>339834387
cy·ber·punk

a genre of science fiction set in a lawless subculture of an oppressive society dominated by computer technology.

Yes, let's go ask wiktionary instead of looking at the literature that spawned the term.
>>
>>339843741
>Yes, let's go ask wiktionary instead of looking at the literature that spawned the term.
It doesn't have to do with the setting, the setting can be clean, bright and beautiful.
Its how they treat the people that makes it cyberpunk or not.
Everything else is just stylistic.
>>

And you decided this?
>>

>And you decided this?
No the stories you so handily refer to did. Some of them are mystery stories and use a gritty backdrop, some don't. They're not all oppressive on the surface, some have an underbelly concealed by open blue skies with a facade of wonder.
How much of it have you really even read?

Check this shit out. How can anyone call this game cyberpunk?
>>
>>339844294
>Some of them are mystery stories and use a gritty backdrop
They all focus on the social divides created by the third industrialization, the pervasive network of information. Of course there are elements of shiny shit, but they're always there to highlight how everyone but the one percent gets fucked over.

>They all focus on the social divides created by the third industrialization, the pervasive network of information. Of course there are elements of shiny shit, but they're always there to highlight how everyone but the one percent gets fucked over.
Well then why did someone say it had to be gritty? It doesn't, its about the people and how society relates to them.
Everything is a choice based on the style of the author.

This is probably the most disappointing piece of shit I've played this year and I knew it wasn't going to be good in the first place. The combat is forced and worse than the first game, and the "open world" gives you two semi-viable routes to your destination, then far fuck out detours where your stuck on one level of buildings for ten minutes, they somehow completely lost a sense of verticality, the space in between buildings might as well be lave if there isn't a rope or bridge somewhere around.

Nothing is more obnoxious than the fucking plot, in the second fucking mission you follow some super sekrit black ops guy to info that's important enough for him to sneak into get but not important enough to not get fucking rekt by some civilian scientist while he's got a knife out, but somehow black ops enough to swallow a cyanide pill through his fucking mask while you look the main baddie in the face then run right back to your sekrit club hideout.

I straight up hate this game.
>>
>>339845663
>rekt by some civilian scientist
Dude, she was clearly the security chief or some shit. She was with the CEO and he specifically ordered her to take him out.

>swallow a cyanide pill through his fucking mask
Hidden in a hollow tooth. Classic spy trick.
>>
>>339846602
>what's that in his hand

>"security chief" just casually looks around while he kills himself

Ya, nah, it's just another another shitty oversight.

They'll hate it. Jeff thinks the original is a terrible game and of course the rest of the crew follow his opinion as usual
>>
>>339843741
Cyberpunk doesn't necessarily have to be nitty gritty. Pic related can be considered cyberpunk and wasn't particularly grimey.
>>
For people playing this on EA Access, do any of the 10 main missions available in the trial force combat aside from the tutorial?
