I think you haven't played the game. This game is as much about idols as Persona 4 was about going being a high schooler.
It's just the basic setting that all gameplay mechanics are based on, but it's not relevant at all to the core mechanics.
Your characters learn new skills when they progress in their respective field (acting, singing, etc.) and the bad guys want to absorb that power from people.
In theory, but in practice it's just your usual forge new weapons from defeated enemies and master skills through combat and sidequests.

It's not really a Fire Emblem game or a SMT game. Eventually Nintendo and Atlus decided to make a new IP because they didn't want it to be too much like an existing Fire Emblem or SMT game. It's true that they kept Fire Emblem in the title, though I think that was really to sell more copies. DESU if you removed that from the title and changed the names of the FE characters you would end up with the same game and no changes to the plot, and no one would think it was a SMT or FE game.

As I said, remove the names of the characters and there's really no way you would think they were from Fire Emblem. Maybe change the outfit, but even then as far as I'm concerned the story doesn't specifically revolve around the Fire Emblem story, only around the original characters and the Fire Emblem characters that help them. You change the name of the Fire Emblem characters and you basically have an original IP where things called Performa come from an unnamed other world, and the rest of the story is the same.
