>parents have a garage sale without me knowing
>call me to let me know they sold all my gameboy games and PS1 games
>first six Pokemon games
>all the Crash Bandicoot games
>all the Spyro games
>all for only $10
What would you guys do if you were me...? At least they didn't sell my old pokemon cards.

You're life is over after higher education anyway thanks to your crippling college debts. They were doing you a favor.
>>
>>339792764
They did you a favor you spergy hoarder.
>>
Call the police, they stole your property. Don't be a pussy just because they're family, turn them in.

>emulators

quit your bitching, OP. It's not like you're going to make a career out of being The Vindictive Computer Entertainment Dweeb or something
>>
>>339792764
Sell their valuables for less.

I would be pretty pissed

>move away from parents
>they never sold any of my old vidya
>still have everything from nes and up once I was able to pick it up
What is it with /v/ and shit parents not respecting their property?
What ps1 games did they sell op? You should tell them how much money they missed out on
>>
>>339792764
They just robbed you of hundreds of dollars.

You should at least get the fair market value of your games. Threaten legal action but make sure to do your research first so you aren't bluffing.
>>
Let them know the value of what they sold. Likely $200+
>>
the fact that they called you says either something about you, your parents, or the truthfulness of this story
>ye son we sold your nintendos and playstations for 10 whole dollareedoos aint that grand? Have a nice one at college
>>
Was this is Austin? I just bought a shit ton of ps1 games for cheap at a garage sale. Wasn't for $10 it was $30
>>
>>339792764
Just wait for the right time and hurt them when you can. Opportunities to hurt people present themselves all the time, you just have to not miss them.
>>
>>339794515
Depending on the condition OP had his games in, and if he kept boxes and manuals, he could have got much, much more selling them individually than what his parents got.

I recently sold my old Pokemon Yellow for ~$67, and could have gotten more but decided not to since I was a new seller, and that's just from one game. Crystal is highly sought if you have the box and manual, too.

So no, they didn't really do him a favor. They pretty much gave all his games away for almost nothing, and who knows if the person that bought them will use them for profit.

And that's not counting the fact his parents didn't respect his property.

Just tell them it was probably worth more than that and they'll probably feel bad. I get why you would be upset but don't try to take revenge, it's petty. These are you parents and they took care of you. Everything you want to play is still available online in better condition.
>>
>>339792764
>What would you guys do if you were me...?
Burn their house down and then kill myself.
>>
>>339792764
just sell your parents jewlery and/or valuables
>>
>>339794567
What if he enjoyed having physical copies? Emulators are no substitute for that.
>>
>>339792764
Wait for them to go on vacation. Offer to house sit for them and sell their electronics.

Tell them you sold all their useless old shit and see what their response is when they get back.
>>
>>339795079

The fuck is wrong with you?
>>
Thank them.
>>
>>339797268
>These are you parents and they took care of you.
They're the ones who chose to have children in the first place. On the other hand, people don't ask to be born.
>>
>>339792764
Good. Time to stop being stuck in the past and move on to the future. It's 2016 there's no reason you should be playing games from 20+ years ago.
>>
>>339792764

Understand that since they paid for all of it, it is rightfully there. Continue to not sperg out about some old games I would literally never play again, and realize that if for some reason I did want to play them again, they could be emulated for free, with less of a chance of critical hardware failure due the age of the system.
>>
>>339797453
Depending on how strongly someone feels about their game collection, it's not an unreasonable impulse to have.

Accept that that part of you life is over and move on. I lost magic cards that today would be valued at 3k-5k. You gotta let it go.
>>
>>339797553
>It's 2016 there's no reason you should be playing games from 20+ years ago.
Except for the fact that games were actually good back then.
>>
>>339797553

I think the main issue is that those games could be resold for several times more than $10.
>>
>>339797453
It's called being patient. Revenge is a dish best served cold and all.
>>
>>339792764
Sit down with your parents and tell them that what they did was a dick move. It's not worth burning bridges with your parents over vidya.

I'm under the assumption that they are not complete assholes, just completely clueless

I'm still pissed at my mother for giving away my brother's old Gameboy that my father and grandfather bought for him.. He even had the special Pokemon edition one. Her excuse was "You guys never used them lol" but I used to admire them every day after school. And this was before Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire came out for context

Also, being "pissed" doesn't mean "Fuck that beach I'll sell her tea cup collection since she doesn't drink tea from them anymore.", but I'm still sad it happened and she didn't say a word about it. Just like what the other anons said, not worth hating on your parents for it. Just cheat another parents and get another college boy's old vidyas

My mom once took all of our video game cases and cut out little pieces of it to put into a binder instead.
She thought she was being neat and organized and that we would thank her for taking care of our games.

Instead we got insanely upset and she started crying. It feels weird making your mom cry.

Long story short me and my brother told her we weren't really upset, since we weren't planning on selling our games, and thanked her for thinking of us. After that she knew not to mess with our games.
>>
>>339798235
>Just cheat another parents and get another college boy's old vidyas
So your advice is to cause the same pain to someone who's done nothing to him instead of directing his anger at the people who are actually responsible?

>>
>>339798552
It was not her idea. Her friend came over and wanted to help her organize the house. You know, mom things.

Because it came as a complete shock to us. Why the fuck would you ruin perfectly good game cases that were neatly stacked in a bookshelf? Seriously.
It bothers me to this day, but I love her way more than I liked those games. So it's fine.
>>
>>339798415
>Instead we got insanely upset and she started crying. It feels weird making your mom cry.
Well, at least she thought she was doing something nice and was genuinely sorry when she realized her mistake. Although your post does remind me of one time my dad made a blatant attempt at emotional blackmail by telling me "Look, your mom is crying!"

>>
>>339799134
I guess so, but if it were me, I wouldn't feel right about doing it unless I knew for sure that they actually *wanted to sell their games*.
>>
That's nothing. My mom gave away my super nintendo and roughly 20 games my first year of uni.
Everything she gave away was probably worth about 300$, not even regarding the sentimental value.
>>
>>339799134

You're just creating another victim in your place. The fact that you were wronged doesn't give you leave to wrong someone else.
>>
>>339799292

To whom?
>>
>>339799328
>You're creating another victim
No, the parents are creating another victim you dingus. He's not stealing, he's buying from another parent who is already selling the games anyway.
>The fact that you were wronged doesn't give you leave to wrong someone else.
Wtf? Are you retarded? The OP didn't do anything wrong. That's like suggesting it's my fault your niece throw up her cup of juice.
>>
>>339792764
Sometimes I wonder how the fuck I can manage to buy awesome games for like 1 euro at flea markets.

This thread answers my question
>>
>>339799394
I don't remember. I try to block out that event in my mind.
>>
>>339799292
That's nothing. My parents gave away my copy of Earthbound + Strategy guide to some neighbor who ended up selling it for $30 and just used it on drugs.
>>
>>339794779
Why on earth do you think they're posting on /v/? Their parents have no respect for them and regard them as subhuman scum, with basic human rights like food being regarded as privileges that can be taken away if you don't act exactly like they want you to.
Source: this is literally how my parents treated me.
>>
i sold my old snes stuff for super cheap. If i were to buy it off of ebay i would be like 300-400 in the hole.
Worst part is i only sold it because i lost my job and needed the money and was desperate and i want it back.
>>
>>339799598
at least he had a fucked up extrasensory experience that entertains you at the moment but leaves you empty, sad and damaged afterwards

If he played it before selling it
>>

>That's like suggesting it's my fault your niece throw up her cup of juice.
well somebody has to take the fault and it sure as hell wasn't me.
>>
>>339799501

So your exploiting a parent's ignorance and then washing your hands of your complicity in the unhappiness you know it's going to cause someone else? This is justifiable to you?

>That's like suggesting it's my fault your niece throw up her cup of juice.

wut?

>Not selling this stuff to some toy collector for shitloads

Have they never seen Toy Story 2?
>>
>>339800223
They've seen enough to see that the toy collector is more prone to stealing.
>>
>>339800223

In Toy Story, Woody was basically a Stretch Serpent that Andy got as a hand-me-down. It's not like your parents are sitting on a gold mine with your old electronics.
>>
>>339800271
He offered Andy's mom like $300, said "name your price" or some shit, then resorted to stealing it when she locked it up.
>>

>>
>trusting your parents with your valuables

I mean I love my mom with all my heart and everything, but like hell I'm gonna leave all my games, model kits, figures, and other shit on her watch.
>>
My sega genesis and all games just disappeared out of my room one day when I was little. I'm 22 now and I'll still never know what happened.

My mom threw out nearly all of my PS1 games except the Crash Bandicoot games and maybe two others I can't recall. Her excuse was "I don't play them anymore".
It's not like they took up space, they were all in one of those big disk carrying case things.

Nothing ever happened after this but I really need to ask about the genesis one day.
>>
>calling after the fact
