IV is almost always my go-to suggestion for entering the series and it helps that there's so many ports to choose from.
It's credited with introducing character driven stories and drama as well as the ATB to the series along with minimal grinding and an amazing score.

I genuinely enjoyed Other M. Playing it on the wii remote with the D-pad made perfect sense to me. I felt like it was a natural progression from the classic 2D style, both the control scheme and the 2.5D platforming was great.
I liked the combat, especially the Concentration thing. It was a lot better than farming enemies for health and ammo picks up and I hope other Metroid games do the same thing.
I also liked how Other M delved more into Samus and her background. I thought it was interesting how Samus is still afraid of Ridley and she has emotions as opposed to being just your gruff space marine with tits.

For once STALKER had a lot of combat, was decently hard and had factions be important without the need of shitty overburdening mods like Misery, Warzone or whatever the faction mod was called.
I guess people didnt want their game to come with default mods, but Clear Sky is just as good as the other two games and has more replay value with the faction system

Characters range from meh to holy shit fuck off, most of the rivals falling in the latter area. Lysandre and AZ were the only characters I felt were any good at all.
The game has the worst teams to put on major NPCs in the entire franchise, the only game coming close in rancidness being RBY having terrible movesets. I've been getting a lot of mileage lately, just look at XY. Gym Leaders never go above three Pokémon and the E4 have four each. This was admittedly a problem in Gen V as well but Gen V has other aspects that make up for it like the gigantic selection of new 'mons.
Megas are lame and they introduced them in the worst way possible by shoving them beside a ton of Lucario pandering. I could probably list the Lucario pandering as an issue in and of itself, it has a giant fucking statue and you're literally forced to use one and Mega Evolve it as your first Mega experience ever, but the main problem with Megas is just me not liking half their designs and the way it's seemingly killed cross-gen evolution forever.
On the topic of pandering, there's way too much Kanto pandering. You get a Kanto starter, wake up a sleeping Snorlax, get a gift Lapras, go through LITERALLY VIRIDIAN FOREST at the start of the game, the only Legendaries in the game besides the Kalos trio are four of the five Kanto Legendaries, it's ridiculous.
Customization is apparently good for the girl but I played as a boy, and customization sucks for the boy.
They throw a ton of casualizations at you and if you're playing blind they can ruin your playthrough. The Exp. Share alone will fuck up your level curve, and while I like Amie as a minigame, the bonuses you get will further fuck up your team to curbstomp anything and everything to a much higher extent than in past games.

The region is more linear than Unova (Unova's linearity is the other big problem with the game). It also doesn't have Gym Leaders as memorable as in Unova, the token big city is far more confusing than Unova's, and the music isn't as good. Shit like Lumiose and the Kalos Badlands are infuriating to travel through.
The only postgame is the Battle Maison. This is an issue with most first-versions of Pokémon games but it's made worse by us NOT getting a third-version. Kalos could've been polished up a ton and all the above flaws fixed if we got a Z but as is there is nothing in the forseeable future that could salvage Kalos until the inevitable remakes 20 years from now.
The game just fails in every aspect of Pokémon that I enjoy. The only thing I think it really did right is the Pokémon designs, there are no Pokémon I dislike from Kalos except Diggersby. Everything else, though, is just a wreck, and I don't plan on ever playing these games again except a second playthrough with the Eternal X hack that ramps up the difficulty curve that I'll probably do before S&M come out.

You have the worst fucking taste. Sinnoh is the best region and Platinum is the second best game in the series, and I already stated BW to be my favorite. Gen VI is such a drop in quality from Gens IV and VI that we can't even see the bottom yet.

I really liked that about the factions, there was always a fight going on if you wanted to have some action, CoP was pretty much dead as soon as you were done with the quests unless you literally started to shoot friendly stalkers, which at most carried an AK which was no fun.
ShoC had the whole respawns on Wild Territory, Garbage and Warehouses going on for it, aswell as the old stash system with stash respawns which I dont understand why was completly avoided for the other two instead of being reworked one way or another.
CS had a nice way of adding quick combat around many areas of the game, it was certainly a bit rough and did hurt the atmosphere of solitude, but for me that was nothing compared to the constant blowouts which nobody ever mentions.
Guess I just didnt care as much about the loss of atmosphere compared to the ease of finding something to do, but thats what the thread is about anyways

Well, cant talk about E.Y.E, its still on my backlog and Im hoping it goes on sale soon.
If you stopped at Cordon, theres not much story wise left, you already know what the places are, what factions do what and so on with the new thing being Clear Sky, but theres pretty good segments like the CNPP race at the end, theres a sniping and squad operations in Yantar and another sniping sequence before Limansk, a very intense firefight with monolith and another one vs the army and those are thing I remember from the top of my head.
Honestly the game is very loaded towards the end, but most final segments of CS are as intense as the hospital ambush in CoP or escaping the red forest after turning off the brain scorcher and the initial assault on Pripyat from ShoC, IMHO they are worth going through the Garbage and Cordon and keeping a few separate saves in case you want to replay them later on.
A big tip if you decide to try it out, keep the legendary AK.

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. I think it's both the best game in the series and one of the best PS2 RPGs. It's rare for an RPG to have much tension, but Dragon Quarter pulls it off. Your resources are limited, every enemy encounter poses a real threat, and mistakes are punished heavily. Playing through the game's "iron man" mode was a lot of fun.
I also enjoyed Jak 2 more than 1 or 3. The first one was a relatively bland, generic platformer, and 3 seemed like a step down from 2 due to the heavier focus on vehicles and lowered difficulty.

Dark Souls 2. Seriously the multiplayer was the best one, and I always have way more fun with PvP than with PvE. Not even talking about pure meta SL120 PvP either, I mean more along the lines of going trough the game, the bell keepers were a million times better than the aldritch faithful and watchdogs.

Afro Samurai was incredible in every department but the gameplay.
The fucking voice acting is the best of any video game I've played yet.
The dialogue is some of the best of any game I've played and really gives you an inside look on each character. Even Afro who's mostly a blank slate gets good material.
Original soundtrack was fucking amazing and had When The Smoke Clears.
Hell, the game is a 100% improvement on the OVA it's based off of, it has a better plot, more dialogue, better written dialogue, better pacing. It's one of the best story-based games anyone could play.

Everyone thinks 2 is the better game, but every character besides Chiaki and Nagito being the mental equivalent of weedman from 1 really fucking wore on me.
Plus I liked the setting and atmosphere more.
