How often do you format your hard drive, /v/?

once when I buy the hard drive, then never again

10-15 years later I may have moved on to using a different filesystem but the drive will likely be retired by then

>not daily
step it up

if data is not perfectly aligned the sequential reads are pretty slow, it literally needs to do U-turns to get the rest of the data, then come back

I format my HDD weekly. The teraflops of gains I see when I load up all my skyrim mods are really noticable, and it's gotten so quick that it clicks with excitement whenever I access my porn folder.

I also store all my important files on my SSD so they stay safe because SSDs are supposed to last 20 years and never randomly die.

i dont, last time i defragged, it killed my comp, i would if i knew the benefit of it
i am an ignorant person

I thought formatting your hard drive erased everything though
why would you do that?
>>
>>339788853
no, it doesn't. whoever told you that is wrong. It just speeds everything up. You should do it immediately if you haven't before.
>>
>>339788853
On the contrary, it actually creates a bit-space that clears up unused bits that are unused by your OS. Formatting finds all the hidden bumps carefully then allows you to store more information on the disk.

The more you do it, the longer your hard drive lasts.
>>
Why would you ever need to format your HDD? Surely in the year 2016 you have an SSD, and that is where your OS is installed?, right?
