Pretty much the only thing they did right.
So much extra mobility, so much the enemies could not do to counter it. Really disappointed they didn't massively increase enemy aggression and AI routines. Could've been a hell of a game. In the end it just fell flat. Not even No Mercy saved it, it just meant bigger crowds that took turns attacking.

Leon goes to some cool places but the campaign isn't given enough time to marinate on them like you said. They are only a few hours each and Leon needed more time.

I think they should've just scrapped Chris and Ada and made just two campaigns with Leon and Jake, make those two twice as long so you feel like you get two full campaigns instead of four short ones.

Metal Gear Solid V was actually great, half of /v/ is just triggered it's not a moviegame, the other half is mad they got rused by the trailers.

Re6 has great core mechanics but the level design is shit and is so linear you have no room to actually play it

Final Fantasy XIII and its like are actual dogshit, XV could potentially be good though.

It had a pretty dedicated following to the day the servers went offline. A lot of them stuff want the series (or at least another game) that goes in the "city in total chaos" co-op/online stuff since Capcom pulled it off fairly well in Outbreak.

First you take the classic RE controls, bump up the difficulty a fair bit to accommodate multiple players, make melee weapons a viable and logical alternative, provide a diverse group of playable characters that each have their own special bonus and can't be picked twice (unless you pick an alternate character version of them), set each chapter in big open maps, and let any player that dies come back as a zombie to hunt the remaining players.

It was just really fun.

At its core, yes. That's why the Mercenaries Mode is good.

But the campaigns go so far out of their way to be unplayable messes that constantly invade the gameplay with everything from bizarre to straight up sonic 06 Tier design decisions that nothing can save the game from being a piece of shit.

To date I have never played a game that has so much potential but is literally trying to kill that potential and succeeds as much as Resident Evil 6. It's baffeling.

This game is abysmal.

Mercenaries is honestly good somehow despite most of the campaign being complete shit.

Game seamlessly (seriously, absolutely seamlessly) matches you with other players when the campaigns intersect using some sort of fucking wizardry.

and the most important: The Rasklapanje death animation is insanely fappable, I must have fapped to that at least a hundred times.

The story was a hilariously stupid macho pastiche, much like the game itself.

I liked Chris's campaign the most because it was the one that spent the least amount of time bullshitting and pretending it was still a horror game.

Leon's campaign is easily the fucking worst with its garbage puzzles and HURR WALK THROUGH THESE COMPLETELY EMPTY AREAS SLOWLY, THIS IS FUN RIGHT? REMEMBER THIS IS A SCARY GAME

Sherry had that fucking dumpster diving stealth segment shit and had the most vehicle segments.

Ada had the terrible puzzles and worst level design.

Chris's was just manly shooting and punching the whole fucking time aside from 2 short vehicle segments, he has the best set of bosses in the game, and him and Piers actually have a character arc unlike everyone else.

Resident Evil started off as really hardline Survival Horror in the first game. Inventory management, limited ammo and health supplies, backtracking, puzzles.

People like to say RE4 was the game that turned RE into action games but really that started with 2. RE2 has the controls and look of a survival horror game but there's piles of ammo and piles of enemies, it's an action game with preset camera angles and a few (really fucking easy and stupid) puzzles.

RE3 continued this trend even further by making the controls better and adding some extra options for combat. It has the most retarded puzzles in the series. Nothing like taking the car battery and putting it in the fountain so you can get the Rosetta Tablet that opens the fucking mayor's office.

Code Veronica was the beginning of the end for Survival Horror. Clunky controls and awkward gameplay, frustrating bosses and puzzles, shitty Leonardo DiCaprio (the Titanic version) wannabe male lead and amazingly bad voice acting.

REmake is amazing, but Survival Horror was pretty much a Sony exclusive genre, so the game sold like shit because it was on the Gamecube.

RE Zero was the last time we would see true Survival Horror RE, mostly because the game was a piece of garbage and I'd mark it as the exact point classic survival horror died in the mainstream.

After that came RE4 which is one of the best video games ever made and probably the best with the Resident Evil name on it. perfect controls, graphics that were unbelivable for the time, great music and voice acting, great John Carpenter-style story and dialogue, memorable environments. Coming off of the abysmal Resident Evil 0 into the incredible RE4, it's not shocking that a lot of companies stopped trying survival horror.

RE5 is just shittier RE4 and RE6 is its own piece of shit.
at this point the only game that's managed to come close to RE4 is the first Dead Space.

RE1 had you playing as bad-ass ex-Special Forces SWAT guys, and it was still pretty fucking scary because they limited your firepower and carrying capacity and made you feel under-equipped.

I don't think the player character matters as much as the setting and game design.

We shouldn't go too far, we don't need a whole game focused around a Moira, but the only way to make the horror actually matter again is to A.) have a character that isn't capable of just raising a Magnum and blowing the threat's head off with no effort, and B.) an actual need for item management and ammo rationing again. Increase the variety and effectiveness of melee so it isn't boring nor kung-fu shit yet also not overpowered, make the character not as agile nor mobile while still picking and choosing the logical advancements over the series (like reloading on the go, maybe have it be slower than if standing still because the character can't concentrate on fleeing and loading a gun at the same time).

Because if we control and fight like someone from RE6, or like Claire or Barry from REV2, then there's nothing besides ammo and scripted sequences stopping us from murdering every BOW in our path.

That and they have a team already created for dealing with BOWs and viral outbreaks so they are more than ready and qualified to deal with this shit so using Chris, Jill,Leon or any of the past characters can kinda kill the mood but maybe another rookie cop, or average joe with little understanding of using fire arms could be what we need freshen things up. I mean I like Leon,Chris and the cast but lets face it their nearing their age and most of the things they'll see in another resident evil game won't be so shocking or horrifying.
