A game with a daily player count of 500,000 is "dead"
>>
>>339735963
You can't really monetize singleplayer games much.

they literally don't need to make games ever again because they have a monopoly on the PC games market

Other developers don't have an issue with this, hell some keep on keeping on even after releasing financial flops. Valve just needs to get over their greed.
>>
>>339735760
>flops
Even if you weren't lying they still wouldn't care: their model is to get you to use their store. The accessories are a means to that end, not a product in of itself.
>>
This is why I refuse to support Nintendo or Sony or MS. How DARE they want to milk me for money.

all of their games should be free and never have DLC, ever.

Valve makes so much money on selling csgo keys alone. Not even including tf2 and dota. They can easily develop a fun single player FPS just for the hell of it
>>
hopefully valve will make half life 3 entirely in goldsrc
>>
>>339735760
No objection to first 4 points or the last one
>Most popular game on Steam is dying
>Second most popular game on Steam is dying
>Fourth most popular game on Steam is long dead
Try again
You forget one thing: Steam essentially has a 40% stake in all of PC gaming because of their monopoly. 40% of the revenue from almost any successful game goes straight into their pockets.
You know what's going on in Bellevue? Valve's raking in the money like never before.
>>
>Valve has made over $1billion last year alone
>GTAV cost $265million to develop AND market
>Valve could literally fund 4 games the size of GTAV with the money they've made in 1 (one) year
>instead they're making... nothing
>absolutely nothing
>all they do is patch their existent games, and even there all the CSGO operation weapon skins/maps are player made, just like all the TF2 hats and maps and the dota 2 items

That's what makes Valve so fucking disgusting. They are in the perfect position to make passion project games with no deadlines, no shareholders, no external publisher fucking them around. Instead they make zero risk mod sequels and hats.
>>
They realized video games don't make as much money as the things based around video games, but they're not that great at the hardware.

Pretty much nothing. The open structure of Valve means no one is going to work on anything that takes significant effort.

Guys, come on. It's pretty obvious that HL3 is being worked on. Either that or L4D3. Valve isn't THAT far gone yet to be doing literally nothing.
>>
>>339737610
I would guess they actually reinvest less than 10% of their earnings and keep the rest for themselves to live the big life.
>>
>>339735760
TF2 has a huge userbase, especially considering its age. And Valve don't care how shitty a community gets, as long as they keep raking in the key and hat money.

Still, not making a single new game since forever is ridiculous, they pour money into risky shit like steam controller, but refuse to make Half Life 3 which would have sold gangbusters if released 5 years ago.

The fact that Valve isn't publicly traded should make people suspicious. I mean, if you've got a successful company, you want to float it on the open market to really make the big bucks. Google and Facebook were bit entities compared to now before their IPO.

But once you make a company public, you've got to reveal your finances, and you've got to be accountable to your shareholders.

So that makes me wonder, what exactly does Valve have to hide? The fanboys excuse of "Gabe is trying to save gaming and shareholders would hold him back from this mission" doesn't wash anymore considering we know very well now from experience that Valve is only motivated by greed (like pretty much every company).
>>
>>339738598
$221mil revenue from CSGO, $238mil revenue from Dota 2. That's $459mil from 2 of their games alone.
Now add 40% of every game sold on steam and it's not that big of a number.
>>

They have infinite money, so they tried to make progress in gaming technology, invested into VR and created the best VR hardware on market, but people don't want progress.
They tried to give peasants more options and better controllers so they won't suck compared to PCs, but I guess console players just don't want that.
They tried to push their games on open platform to counter microsoft being more and more jewish, but people don't care about that either.
They are developing game engine that is free to use for game developers, open api and physics engine.
They ARE doing something, people just don't want cool stuff it seems.
