I agree. I can't quite put ny finger on it, but it feels like it was the last console that was about making games that were fun, not about games that make profit. It was the last generation of "innocent" or un-corporate games.
I may be wrong about that, and my view is undoubtedly influenced by my age at the time I had a Dreamcast. But... I think the Dreamcast was the last time I had a sense of wonder about games.

It was the last system with any real ties to the arcades, seeing that it was based on actual arcade hardware. So immediate, easy and fast (an often underestimated element in gaming) to learn, hard to master fun over "cinematic" gaming, and the quantity/quality ratio is among the best of any system. Hell, even its bad games and shovelware has this cheesy "so bad it's good" charm you usually don't get on other systems.
On SNES, I prefer Street Fighter II Turbo to Super Street Fighter II, mainly due to the older sound effects; they're just way more comfy to me
2nd Impact had the better music though.

I used to go to a market in my city (the Barras for any Glaswegians in the thread), where I could get pirated Dreamcast games for a fiver (a fucking FIVER). I got so many cool games that way that I never would have heard of otherwise. PSO. Powerstone. Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage. Loads of fucking games. It was amazing.

I got the real deal games on a sale for about $5 or $10 a pop around the time it was being discontinued. Such an awesome time in life, my favorite era probably and my favorite console.

From the way the system looked down to the artwork on game cases. Hell even the music of the bouncing ball into the logo was great. Then the idea of storing games on a little tomagachi/gameboy type device was a mind fuck to me.
