Doesn't look like bait to me, anon. I think it's a good question, because I've been searching for it myself.

All I can think of are sites like "how long to beat" and backloggery. None of them scratches my "MAL but for vidya" itch, though.

I use myvideogamelist which is kind of a cheap knockoff of MAL. It's not the best, doesn't have videos/screenshots to look at while browsing for a game but it's rather simple.

There's not much point building a video game database like MAL because video games are an inferior medium and any idiot who "publishes" a UE4 demo or RPG Maker garbage is entitled to an entry.

Maybe there should be a way to segragate the two:

Games of Note:
>games from high-profile publishers or developers
>indie games published by well-vetted publishers (e.g., Revolver Digital, Adult Swim)
>self-published games that have gained a lot traction

The Rest:
>any poop that some self-made publishing idiot made, and shovelware

My experience is that life is too short to spend time lording over your treasured hard-drive data.

Like, fuck. I have not had a Pictures folder in years. I've come across thousands upon thousands of great images, cute anime girls, and otherwise interesting shit. I do not regret not saving any of it.

Life is too short to care about having an elaborate digital hoard.

I recently lost my TrueCrypt data, anon. Years worth of stuff, including my giant and meticulously-curated MP3 collection and anime, among lots of other treasured stuff.

The filesystem within the TrueCrypt container was formatted with Ext4, but at the time, I had no Linux machines. So I decided to plug it into a USB hub, which a Linux VM then had access to.

Big mistake. Random corruption everywhere. No way in hell to even think about recovering a fraction of it. Lost everything.

So yeah, don't ever use TC via a USB hub. Plug dat shit in directly.

I tried many and i liked howlong2beat more, it gives you lots of option to organize games while not obligating you to fill data you dont want to, like the ownership status on backloggery, why the fuck does that matter
>>
>good
No. Raptr automatically keeps track of the hours you spend playing PC games and tracks your achievement and trophies if you link your PSN and XBox accounts. Xfire used to do the same thing until they changed into a completely different thing. Playfire also exists, and serves mostly as a microblogging thing, like facebook and twitter but for normies talking about video games. They're all pretty awful.

>>
>>339677390
MAL is probably one of the better, if not one of the best ones out there, at least for its size.

Though, the standards for anime forums are incredibly low, so that's not saying much at all.

Speaking of which, does anyone know any anime communities that aren't garbage? I don't think I've ever ran into one that wasn't.

I honestly do not see the point of MAL other that bragging how much anime you have watched. Backlog can be put in a notepad.

>>339684174
Same reason you might organize games.

There are people who watch a fuckton of anime. MAL lets you keep track of how many episodes as well, which is fairly useful.

On the topic of MAL, I remember seeing some alternative on my occasional lurking of /a/ a year or two ago, but it was literally just a listing function without the fucking retarded community on MAL. I don't suppose anybody here would remember what it is?

And no, it's good when things have a conclusion. If it was a good game you will want to play it again down the line. This modern trend of unlimited autism simulators doesn't appeal to me at all.

Listen up faggots.

Darkadia used to be good. It draws directly from GiantBomb's database. recently it's abandoned and returns error on searching games.

As a completionist, I find GameFAQs to be the best option at the moment. You can rate a lot of the parametres about a specific game.

Protip: When you create your collection on GFAQs, it takes some time to update.

I just use a Google Sheets spreadsheet with different pages for played, backlog, games finished by year, etc
I started it in Excel just to practice using it but I liked being able to access my list on everything so I ported to Sheets and it gets the job done

>can log any games or mods however I want
>can set up categories however I want
>can calculate stats however I want
>can sort and filter however I want
>>>have to input every single piece of information manually
>>>sometimes formatting gets fucked

I'd like something more automatic but I haven't seen anything as polished as MAL
>>
>>339686769
Is this a joke? I was serious.
>>
>>339681785
It's nice for those series that you watch irregularly, either because of how often new chapters/episodes releases or if you let them pile up and then watch them in one go. Sure you could do it all in notepad or whatever but MAL is convenient.
>>
>>339672634
I am writing my own simple generic backlog manager to learn C++, SQLite, and QT GUI.

Once it is done I can add a bunch of activities like video games, anime, and movies.

Each activity can be edited to have its own custom columns. And you basically use a search filter to sift through your backlog.

Would be nice if I can search through several activities in my search filter. Like say I feel like watching and playing anything related to ww2 without having to search through each and every activity individually.
>>
I made my MAL and Backloggery to keep track of the anime I watched and the vidya I was into just for myself without giving a fuck what other people might think of it. In fact, I never looked at the forum part of MAL.

You just need the will to do your shit without giving 2 fucks about the retards and attention whores that fill both hobbies.
