Lonesome Road had the best map and mood I have ever played in a game. After that tiny town the walk is so atmospheric and perfect I wanted to play it forever. His whole purpose narratively is to emphasise the mythology and idealogical conflict surrounding the main storyline, which he fucking nails, but everyone hates him because he's too esoteric. What's worse is that his weird highfaluten way of speaking, and emphasis on symbols makes sense from a character perspective given the influences of the Legion and their superiority complex, the customs of his tribe (their symbolic dreadlocks), and his experiences with various cultural identities (his tribes assimilation into the legion, the white legs trying to copy his braids, etc.)

In the best ending they don't get sick of Daniel and kick him out, so presumably he keeps preaching. If he keeps preaching he'll eventually have to confront the misconception the Sorrows have about God, Mary and Jesus, which may eventually lead them to believing in Christianity proper and giving up the Father In The Caves as superstition. And when they do that they might just investigate further and find his terminals and read his story

Not sure I agree with you about that. His entire story is essentially him trying and failing to protect various things in his life through brute force (e.g. killing all the vault people, not being with his family as they died, the failed c-section of his second wife), but by taking a more hands-off form of teaching and protection, he's able to encourage the Sorrows and help them grow. His status as a protecting spirit is basically the most pure form of what he was trying to be, it's a really fucking beautiful ending for him.He also mirrors Joshua Graham's potential endings as either a ball of impotent, never-sated anger, or a protector, teacher and leader for the Dead Horses

Those Spore Carriers and Plants have been there a good 185 years, so I don't think the place is in any danger of being overrun by rampant plant life and Cordyceps-tier spore infestations
Zion's already plenty dangerous enough with the Yao Gui and Green Geckos. And the Sorrows are pretty good at killing Yao Gui
