Not the anon you replied to, but I wouldn't say it's as much a horror game as a game with horror elements here and there.
If you haven't played it since then, I really recommend giving it another shot. The mansion is scary, but once you realize nothing can really hurt you (aside from the poltergeist throwing shit at you/magical smoke fire shit). Unless you still have the game, I recommend torrenting it, since the devs aren't around, and Activision doesn't deserve money for a game they actively sabotaged along it's creation.
Also, the unofficial plus patch is a must for me, but playing fresh once, then playing again with the patch is nice too, lets you see all the content they restored compared to the vanilla game. The Clan Quest Mod also works nicely, it's a mod pack that lets you install minor side stuff, like improved gun sounds, a tweak to make you lose blood points over time, so you have to feed more consistently, you can bring certain NPCs around as companions, and stuff.
VtM:B is such a gem of a game, shame the devs aren't around anymore. I heard Paradox Interactive are working on a sequel, since they bought the rights to VtM.
