Censored like the first game.

Nope.
Atlus is a piece of shit too and they've been doing this for years.

>mfw they outright admit they're censoring it

They can fuck right off. I'm pirating CG1 on PC when it comes out, and hopefully it can be uncensored using the PSP version's assets for the sounds and such.
>>
>>339614493
Transparency is actually really decent of them and not a bad thing.
Surprise censorship is the worst.
>>
Honestly shocked the first one sold enough to warrant this.
>>
>>339614834

Except for the part where they lie through their teeth and the rationale:

1.) They're censoring it before even receiving a rating, and they even admitted to this. Just submit the fucking game, see if it gets an AO rating, and then follow the ESRB's recommendations from there.

2.) They explicitly stated it's being censored because they don't like the "gap" between the MC and the girls. They think it doesn't look "consensual" (surprise, it's called "punishment time" for a reason).

They can get bent, for all I care.
>>
>>339614904
They localized Mugen Souls 2 despite the fact the first game's LE is still in stock, so this really shouldn't surprise you.
>>
Actually censoring a game before it even receives a rating.

Holy shit this is a new level of low.
>>
>>339615139
No, you misunderstand me.
I hate these changes and their reasons for them, but as you just said:
>They're censoring it before even receiving a rating, and they even admitted to this.

They are being very honest about how and why they are changing this game. They don't seem to be lying. They're doing it for shitty reasons but they're admitting to it.
I appreciate their honesty about it and thanks to that I can make an informed decision to avoid this game.

>2. Why make changes to the game before it is even rated?
>Two main reasons: time and budget. When we submit something to ratings boards, we need to be absolutely sure that it’s going to be the final version, or we risk costly delays and even the game not being released at all.

So they outright admit that the ESRB is not at fault in majority of their censored releases, and of other publishers who censor their products. Way to go there NISA.

No voiced dialogue in motivation scenes as well, and foggy as the 1st game. If it comes to PC, it'll also come censored by their statement.
>>
>>339613964
Not sure if sarcasm.
>>
>>339615258

That's nothing new. Atlus did it with DT2 too.

The real reason why they do this is because of the backlash from the media. They're basically afraid that if they release the game uncensored, the media will rip them a new asshole. At least companies like XSeed just laugh at them and release the game anyway.

Nothing can land you an AO rating besides explicit nudity or explicit sex. Implied nudity and implied sex are perfectly fine though (examples include bath scenes where the MC sees someone stark naked, or games like Harvest Moon where you have a child).
>>
>>339613820
Gotta blame the retards who bought the game censored.

There's explicit nudity and sex in GTA V and it didn't get an AO.

What ESRB calls "explicit" is a bit different than that. They also have some arbitrary factors they toss in like how long a dick is on screen, if the screen focuses on the penetration, if it's for humor or eroticism, and so on.

Either way, this game definitely doesn't have the criteria to be rated AO, as there is no nudity or sex.

I honestly don't understand why they even bother to localize these games.

With games like fire emblem you have the strategy elements and most of the convo support intact even if they gutted out the other stuff so it still has plenty good reason to get localized.

With games like this it's really all about the lewd factor. Like the whole point of the game seems to be the pervertedness. If you just change it and make it tame there doesn't seem to be much point at all to the game. It would have just been better off staying in Japan.
>>
It's funny how transparently dishonest they are when describing their reasons for censoring it. If a localisation company finds the material in a title unethical then they shouldn't be messing around with it in the first place.
>>
>>339615983

That was done for the sake of humor, so no. The ESRB is basically concerned about pure porn games like an eroge getting on consoles. They don't seem to care about porn when it's used as a joke (south park) or as a plot device (witcher).
>>

I would definitely argue otherwise, but that comes down to opinion anyway.

>It's just that American translators don't get Japanese humor so they localize their own taste into it.

Pretty much. That's why Fire Emblem Fates got Hisame localized as the pickle man. He had nothing erotic or suggestive about him, but NoA changed him to love pickles and make pickle jokes because they thought he was dull.

Fucking awful. The terminology and context changes seem the most egregious to me though it's all awful.

But I'm not disappointed; I expected it. Still won't buy it and I won't support NISA with any of their releases.
>>
>>339616425

The point is with Nintendo, they don't tell you outright they're going to fuck you up your ass. At least NISA tells you, so you can avoid a giant ass reaming if nobody else finds out about the censorship ahead of time.
>>
>>339616508

>DT2 was different, for one they consulted rating members privately

That isn't an official ESRB rating. Submit it to the ESRB, show the people the rating AND the rationale on your public blog, and then go censor the game if you must.

The ESRB always gives a detailed log of why the game got its rating, along with pointers as to what would raise/lower the rating. No company every shows these though because they always censor their games BEFORE submitting them, and then lie about it.
>>
>>339616451
>I would definitely argue otherwise, but that comes down to opinion anyway.
Which is what makes regulating around "Artist's intent" is a retarded thing to begin with.

I haven't seen anything in this game I could fap to so I assume this game was not made for fapping.
That'd be something like Artificial Academy which is all about fucking anime girls.

Leaves me thinking the spanking minigame is there for entertainment rather than arousal.

>>

I'll defend DT2 because asking a rating member privately isn't really that different from officially submitting it. That, and if there is one thing that isn't a bullshit excuse coming from NISA about CG2 it's that it is expensive to submit for a rating - if they got an AO, they would've had to delay the game, implement the changes, then spend money again to resubmit.

I'm wiling to accept the changes to DT2 because they are obviously made in good will.

Threehouse still has to get on NISA's level.

NISA downright rewrites characters personalties and dialogue if they feel like it was "problematic", while pating themselves on the back, truly believing they actually rewrote the character for the better.
>>

But you'll still find out before it gets released anyway. I also liked how you ignored that Criminal Girls is an actual fanservice-y game, but I guess it really isn't about what kind of games NISA localizes but how Nintendo localizes their own games.

You wanna know how you avoid that? You do what XSeed does and submit a raw Japanese game to be rated before you even begin work. That way you can work on the translation while you get your rating, and then get to adjusting anything that needs to be "fixed".

>With games like this it's really all about the lewd factor. Like the whole point of the game seems to be the pervertedness

Exactly! The "gameplay"is garbage. Most people buy this game for the girls. The entire marketing campaign of this series in Japan was entirely about the fanservice. Especially the 2nd game, where NIS (JP) president talked about how there's more girls now, with rich and varied personalities, and more perverted ways to "punish" them.

For fuck's sake, they contracted a Hentai artist to draw for the game!
>>
>>339617116
Pegi 16 doesn't have an equivalent in ESRB.
Europe has 12, 16, 18 ratings.
NA has only T or M.

That's why it fits in between.
>>
>>339617050

Anon, NoA did that in Fire Emblem Fates. Soleil, Kanna, and Hisame were completely rewritten. The first two due to how "problematic" they were. Kanna gets friendzoned instead of a marriage proposal, and Soleil had all her supports redone.
>>
>>339616782
By not censoring the game for one. You could argue the people boycotting it are a minority but those are still lost sales at the end of the day.

As it stands, all things point to all of these changes being done either because the staff internally doesn't want to support the content or because of overseas ratings agencies.
>>
>>339616945
Fuck off, cuck. DT2 wouldn't have gotten a AO rating from any of those scenes and you know it just as much as me. As a matter of fact CG2 will have scenes involving a loli character much lewer than DT2 and those will only have the voices removed, nothing else.

The definitions come from what CDProjekt claims they had to deal with when getting Witcher 3 rated. Unless the game has "prolonged" sex, it's fine. Brief moments where you walk in on a dick don't land you an AO rating.

Anyone who is bilingual can understand this.

All the Senran Kagura and Corpse Party games only have Japanese voices, and many others are dual audio; it has nothing to do with them being cheapskates. Sometimes the Japanese voices are literally not available for western licensing, depending on the contracts and such. This has happened with every Falcom game XSEED has localized, they straight out tell them no and it's not up for negotiation.
>>
>>339619659
You're right. I should be thankful for them that they even brought it over in the first place.

Great. I will buy that.

I was surprised to find out that one of the main characters is voiced by one of my favorite voice actresses who doesn't do all that many games. Then devastated to find out her card got censored more heavily than any others.
I couldn't enjoy the game at all.

Reminder that in the original, Japanese version of the game, you could get a limited DLC code that turned the green slime in "bukakke punishment" mode into white so you can literally cum on the girls and kids.

And the official manga that Famitsu releases on their all-ages video game comic website has scenes showing the MC literally licking the little girl's cunt that you can see the outline of in her panties and the brown girl's slit.

Treehouse can eat shit and die, but at least their localization doesn't cause greambreaking bugs that have the potential of bricking your console.

That type of idiocy and incompetence belongs only to NISA for now.

That said NISA is wierd some of their localized games actually have a good localization with no censoring or bugs like the Disgaea series, 1 through 4 at least.

Why does NISA even localize these games? They have a fringe niche market at best, on a platform that's userbase is at best stagnating if not dropping like flies.

And then you go out of your way to make YOUR market that buys YOUR games hate you. If they didn't want to localize panty quest #32893893, then they fucking shouldn't. i can't even see them making that much money off of projects like this, Criminal Girls and Mugen Souls, their 2 most censored games, sold like SHIT.

This is a completely bullshit excuse. There isn't some magical money-sucking hole in the basement of their workplace that pulls money out of their pockets for every second the game isn't released. If they're waiting on the approval process to go through they can spend that time working on other projects instead.
And submitting to the ESRB is not expensive, especially not compared to PEGI or the OFLC, which is considered notoriously expensive for having a fee of roughly $2000 AUD.

The ESRB is actually a lot more relaxed than a lot of people assume. It pretty much takes explicit genitals in your face to get an AO for sexual content, which is the same for other ratings boards.

It is more lenient on violence though, especially compared to Japan's CERO.

I assume it happened because the translators had a digimon glossary.

The word in the dialogue is バケモン which is a rough way of saying the word 化物 which translates as "monster". I assume they were in a hurry and saw バケモン then saw a digmon called Bakemon and assumed that was what was being spoken about.

I can absolutely see how this mistake happened. It should have been caught in testing but I can see how it happened in the first place.
