I have younger siblings and several younger relatives, none of them have a 3DS, all they play are mobile games, with the exception of a Wii, purchased last year over a Wii U, for my cousins. I rarely see anyone besides myself with a 3DS, when I do they are all in their mid to late teens.

Nintendo could be great again, the 3DS is a great handheld and I think it's still doing well enough, the issue is tablets and mobile gaming. Kids aren't looking for good games, they're looking for bejeweled clones or other ancient games with pretty effects and of course Minecraft. I honestly have no idea how you could entice kids further. Pokemon is like the ultimate schoolyard game and it's a juggernaut but I feel like kids just don't play it as much as they used to.

Also the gamecube controller is drastically superior to the N64 controller. The analog stick on the N64 pads was garbage and really ruined the entire thing, not to mention the face buttons were really wacky.

I like the GC controller, but I actually prefer the N64's 3D stick due to the precision. GC's stick (as well as the wii classic controller, the dualshock, the xbox controller and pretty much any other controller with an analog stick) have a lot of dead zones, not the N64.
It's easily noticeable when you try to play N64 games that require precise aiming like Star Fox or Sin and Punishment. Feels very responsive, smooth and precise with the original N64 controller, not so much with other ones.
What about the face buttons was wacky? Other than the c-buttons being smalled then A and B, it was a standard 6 face button controller.
Gamecube's layout is a lot wackier.
