I've supported the video game industry by NOT buying games. Not until I've researched them thoroughly, because if I supported shitty games then I would actively be hurting the industry. I never accept trailers as indicative of the final product. I wait a week, minimum, for any game to come out so that the dorks who rush in can find the problems that the critics wouldn't find in their review copies.
