I feel the complete opposite. My biggest problem with RDR is how the open-world is boring. It starts great, but quickly it becomes repititive, and you're doing the same shit over and over. You lose too much time just galloping around with nothing happening, and unless you're in to mood to play a game where you do nothing, it's not great.

The essence of "Open World" is what I like to call "emergent gameplay." A kind of interaction between knowns and unknowns, as they are generated. You need "random encounters" for this to work.
