Every Metal Gear game thus far, while still being part of an overall narrative, had it's own story to tell that wrapped up for the most part within it's own game.
MGSV simply cuts off midway and resolves almost none of it's plotlines, and causes more problems to the overall storyline than it helps. It would have been better if it had never been made at all.

That's kind of the majesty of how well Huey's arc is done in the game, especially in utilizing the audience's expectation of him. Everyone starts out giving Huey the benefit of the doubt because of exposure to him in Peace Walker, which presents him as simply an Otacon clone. Then over the course of the Phantom Pain, the audience is given an increasing sense of doubt until they have the realization that Huey is not only the most despicable character in the series, even in comparison to obvious villains, but has ALWAYS been like that all along.
Also thematically appropriate that Huey ends up being the exact opposite of Otacon, even though they appear identical at first. Makes Otacon all the more appreciable and heroic, too.
In short, Huey's the only good part about the Story in the Phantom Pain.

Metal Gear Rising despite not being directly canon, (lol canon love kojima really but not really) had a shit load of open ended garbage that never got wrapped up. Just ended up this is my mission of revenge now. Metal Gear Rising 2 never, because Kojima felt as though he didn't have enough control over the first game that there will not be a second game. Even if Platinum were the ones to pay for it.

Huh? Did we even play the same game? Big Boss ALWAYS cared about his men. This was made evident in both Portable Ops (yes, it's canon aside from a couple discrepancies) and Peace Walker based on the numerous character interactions that occur in both games.
It was Zero's plan to make a mental doppelganger of Big Boss in case Big Boss never awoke from his coma. When he did awake, Big Boss was in such a desperate spot that he was forced to utilize Venom Snake.
As much as he wanted to get payback against XOF, he needed to rebuild his army in order to take down The Patriots, which posed a much greater threat than Skull Face and XOF. He placed faith in Ocelot and Venom, and it worked. He had the utmost faith in Venom, aka YOU, because Big Boss believed in you and your skills. You the player were just as integral to the story as any of the other characters in MGS. And Big Boss knew that.
Next time You accuse Big Boss about not giving a shit about his comrades, just remember that he had his utmost trust in you in the war against Cipher. "I am you, and you are me. Carry that with you wherever you go. Thank you my friend."

Quiet is enjoyable in a general sense, but this question is actually a huge problem with her. At the end of the day, we know NOTHING about Quiet. She has no known history prior to the hospital incident, and there's not a single interaction between her and Skull Face even though there logically should be. We even know a lot more about Burger Indian Man than we do about Quiet.
This problem largely stems from two points about Quiet. First is her optional nature. You can choose to shoot her in the face or bypass her entirely. Because of this choice, the game has to assume that she isn't there at all. Therefore she can NEVER take part in the main story, existing only in her side bit. The worst part about this is that the choice is actually a false choice, anyway. There's absolutely no reason to not take her in because all that would do is deprive yourself of content with nothing in return.
The second point is her whole mute thing. While this comes off as cute, the price ends up being that she can NEVER take part in cassette tapes and radio chatter. You know, the methods in which 95% of the story is told.

When you start thinking how dumb a boss fight with him would be, you actually begin to respect how his death was handled in MGSV. Like Venom, you may or may not feel grudge against him, and at the end whether you do or do not pull the trigger, your actual revenge is stripped from you by a paraplegic cuck. Skull Face's death brings no disclosure or satisfaction. You think and kind of hope the game would end while at the same time thinking, "this can't be the end, not like this, not yet."
Phantom Pain is deeply flawed but it got things like this so right it hurts to think how they fucked up some other aspects.
