It's an old game. A manual is pretty much need to teach you all the rules of the game. Especially character creation. Just change the controls to work like Morrowind and go to UESP to see how to work the character creation and you're gold.

Get the daggerfallsetup version. And don't install the mod quests since those are broken. Just install the quest patches and CompUSA quests.
Bloodborne, particularly chalice dungeons. You will have to beat a lot of preliminary shit to get to the fun stuff though.

Let's see. It came out around the time Morrowind did. Unfortunately it was riddled with bugs at that time. By now the engine's code has been open-sourced, so these bugs were fixed. This fixed version goes by the name Arx Libertatis. You still need the original media content to play the game. The Arx Libertatis site has multiple links where you can get it.
Pretty interesting setting. The sun went out, so folks moved underground, where humans, goblins, trolls and other factions are trying to cooexist. There are also the rat people and a sisterhood of snake women. Has some nice mysteries, conspiracies and puzzles too. Fun sidequests too, but the main storyline involving deities has only one ending. And unfortunately it's not open-ended like the Elder Scrolls series games, so you should discover as much as you can before you face the final boss.

The game is begging for more bosses/enemies/equipment and maybe some alternate levels. It could end up bad like Invisible Inc's DLC that just makes the game less fun to play, but I woulda liked to see the effort after what a success the game was.

You learn new spells by collecting runes that are scattered around. You can loot those from dead adventurers in dungeons, find them in hard-to-get-to secret areas or buy them from certain shopkeepers, etc.
Once you obtain a new rune, new spells might appear in your spellbook. Depends on whether you have new castable rune combinations.
Spellcasting is done by drawing your runewords on screen with your mouse. You can also pre-cast and store up to 3 spells for quick casting.
There's all kinds from simple torch lighting spells to demon summoning.
