So we agree this is the pinnacle of 3d mario platformers?
>>
Easily the worst 3D mario.
>>
Absolutely brilliant mechanics wasted on shitty levels.
>>
Best movement mechanics, but the worst levels and general design.
>>
>>339561172
this

The Gamecube was the only time Mario's world actually felt like a real living world

It could have been if it wasn't rushed
>>
Easily the best 3d mario
>>
>>339561102
Galaxy 2. Sunshine could have been the best but the level designers shit the bed
>>
The music in that fucking game man. The blue coins are bullshit, but I love the game besides that.
>>
Get fucked gamecube revisionists. super mario sunshine was considered the worst mario ever at the time and for good reason
>>
>>339561408

I would agree except I didn't like Galaxy 2's world map. Galaxy 1's hub was comfier by far.

Mario Sunshine is the only truly bad mainline Mario game
>>
>>339561408

Galaxy 2 fucking sucked and I don't know why. And I love galaxy 1.
>>
>>339562019
Probably the lack of atmosphere. Galaxy 2's flat style was the pathway to 3D Land and 3D World.

The levels are my favorite part of the game and sunshine was the only mario game i'd consider an 8/10 or better
>>
>/v/ suddenly hates Super Mario Sunshine
What happened?
>>
Sunshine is the one game where I can load up like nearly every mission and get frustrated about how much I hate said mission.

It's fun if you just want to run around its world's like their hubs and enjoy the atmosphere but Christ its levels and objectives fucking suck.
>>
>>339561102
Its by far the easiest because of the ability to hover.

I think I prob like galaxy the best. This is close though. I couldnt beat the clean the beach level with a timer i was a kid.

You'll notice that /v/ hates anything that takes a modicum of skill, like starcraft1, acounter strike, mobas, and also sunshine

Sunshine punished you for fucking up. Filthy casuals
>>
I disliked how it was a real world instead of an obstacle course like 64, which led to weaker level design.

Tied with 64 and Galaxy imo. I just want another REAL 3d mario to be honest. not some kitten power up bullshit
>>
>>339562409
>Sunshine punished you for fucking up

It's by far the easiest of all the 3d marios. Get fucking good
>>
>>339562409
I like Sunshine but it has a lot of flaws. Blue Coins as opposed to actual missions for those Shine Sprites, forced cut-scenes you can't skip, introducing Bowser Jr., forcing you to do every Shadow Mario mission to get to the final boss, as opposed to 64 which gave you more freedom to make it to the end if you weren't going for 100%, the poison river having a pipe that takes you out of it, etc. Conceptually it's very great, but the execution is really flawed
>>
>>339562221
>>339562241
>>339562349

I remember a lot of the levels being flat planes instead of the vertical clusterfucks that they're supposed to be given the interesting FLUDD mechanics. A lot of the tasks involved carrying 8 watermelons to get a star when Mario should instead be doing things like leaping across the Grand Canyon.
>>
>>339561102
I love and will always enjoy SunShine but, I can't for the life of me bring myself to 100% it because of the blue coins. To this day, it's the only 3D Mario game I haven't 100%
>>
>>339562625
>Blue Coin
Are optional content and shouldn't be held against the game.

>Bowser Jr
What's wrong with bowser junior?
>>
>>339562759
I went back to it after a few years of missing a few in Noki Bay and finally found them.
>>
>>339562759
I forced myself to do it when doing 100% runs of every Mario game. Blue coins are such a garbage mechanic and I never want to experience them again.

Between that and forcing myself to do the same for DK64 when I did all the DK games I've grown a pretty vocal hate of collectathons.
>>
>>339561516
>tfw loved Sunshine at the time when it came out
>Everyone shitted on it and said it was around a 7/10 game
>suddenly many years later there is now a large group of people that love it
What happened
>>
>>339562759
Same here
>>
>>339561102
I was actually very impressed with what they came up with for Super Mario 3D World

pretty cool game
>>
>>339562930
>Are optional content and shouldn't be held against the game.

Not if you want to 100% it, and keeping track of the Blue Coins you collected is a huge pain. At most they say the amount you collected but not the ones you actually did specifically.

>>339562930
>What's wrong with bowser junior?

Replaced the Koopalings, and was part of the annoying forced cutscenes.
>>
>>339562675
Noki Bay, Rico Harbor (kinda) and Pinna Park were pretty vertical worlds.
>A lot of the tasks involved carrying 8 watermelons to get a star
>A lot
What? if you mean kicking the giant watermelons, then that was only one star.
If you meant carrying the different fruits that was also a star or two (I only remember the Yoshi level in Rico Harbor, but I'm sure there was at least another one.

To say there were "a lot" of these missions is just plain wrong.
>>
>>339562930
It's optional content that makes up nearly a third of the stars in the game.
A game having way less worthwhile content than its immediate predecessor, which didn't have to rely on that type of filler, is a legitimate issue. Not to mention each level had 2 red coin missions and a 100 coin star too.
>>
It's only the pinnacle because it's the only one with proper camera controls.

No, the other games' "pick one of eight angles from up close or from afar" don't count as proper camera controls.
>>
like, the entire fucking game is terrible
>>
I find it amazing that people defend the waggle shit in the Galaxy games but whine about FLUDD in Sunshine.
>>
>>339563729
Fludd permeates into every aspect of Sunshine. It's the way you interact with the environment, the way you deal with enemies, the way you platform, the way open new levels, etc. The entire game is built around using it at all times.

Besides those three shitty dedicated motion control levels in Galaxy marked by Green Stars you only ever use motion for the pointer or a quick spin attack, which are harmless afterthoughts and work fine.
>>
>>339561102
shitty gimmick and insufferably boring level design

atmosphere and music was good though
movement holds up to 64, though I think 64 was better personally

Anyone hate the hub as much as I? I mean really hate. Ive tried to get into this game since release and I just can't because of the hub. I feel like I clear it in a week if it had the SMG2 style hub but every time I boot SMS up I just get distracted or lost

its a much better hub than galxy, but its shit compared to mario 64's castle
>>
>>339567325
retards like you are why fucking MARIO of all things had to be dumbed down into disney tier kiddy safe foolproof garbage. sunshine marks the end of an era of nintendo, as do most gamecube games. you kids raised on wiis playing mario galaxy when you were 8 fucked everything up. fucking nintendo

What are you on about. I dont want to have to walk around a whole village to get to and find new levels.
>The castle was great because it was contained, there was no question of where the levels were. Offered heavy exploration possibilities outside the castle.
>Sunshine makes you travel great distances and weave through buildings to find hidden splotches to reveal levels, and the side quests were annoying and the whole thing didnt feel like mario at all.
>Galaxy was better it was more similar to 64, without the exploration of outside. That wasn't needed as much because we moved past "omg 3d lets spend an hour swimming in a moat holy shit this is fun"
>Galaxy 2 did it perfect. Small hub to explore, gave you everything you needed, and you could go to levels as fast as the 8/16 bit days.

I'm no kid, this is me playing SMB1 in 1989
>>
>>339567698
I'm convinced that the waggle spin/tackle was made for people who couldnt jump or move correctly because of the shitty stick controls
>>
Where has this new "Sunshine's level design is shit" meme come from?
>>
>>339562019
Galaxy 1
>Comfy but small hubworld, but not small to where you might as well have a world map instead, and not too big where getting to the world isn't a chore.
>Some annoying comets but not that bad at times.
>Harmless powerups they're fun to use.
>Earn the right to play as Luigi when 100%
>Flight power up that's useless and only used for one mission

Galaxy 2
>Small planet ship thing that isn't even a real hubworld. You might as well use a world ma--
>They used a world map instead. linear as fuck.
>Comet medals
>Yoshi becomes a gimmick power-up a majority of times.
>Bee Mario replaced with Cloud Mario
>2D sections
>Fucking Gliding bird thing.
>Luigi isn't a reward for completion.
>GREEN STARS
>The Perfect Run
>PURPLE COINS
>Inferior music to Galaxy 1 (Galaxy 2 does have good tracks though.)
>Dat Whomp's Fortress tho'
>>
>>339561102

>>
>>339568590
you really don't gain much distance from the spin at all.

not that it's difficult at all to move mario or jump with the wiimote. you move the control stick to move, and press A (the biggest button on the center of the controller) to jump. If it was easy to do on the weird N64 controller I don't see how a fully functioning human could have a problem doing it on the wiimote

Super Mario 64 was the best Mario game.

Sunshine was alright.

Galaxy and Galaxy 2 were gimmicky as fuck and more about style over substance.

SM3DW is fun enough, but really feels watered down compared to the feel of movement in SM64 and Sunshine.

>>
>>339568773
Not much more distance but I feel it got me out of a few jams before. Like the difference between falling off a ledge.

I cant explain the stick thing. I just feel like because my left hand is holding the nunchuk on its own instead of having the leverage of holding a controller with 2 hands, I'm not getting the full grip I need. At the least it is definitely different. I can imagine many people like it more.
>>
>>339567621
This I'll admit I got game overs in SMG2 and hated getting reminded to take a break (might have as well said hey anon time for a smoke break) and reminded of how the world map works EVERY GAME OVER. And you're going to tell me that was something I could turn off now that I've cleared the main game.
