I feel Zenny is fine against soldier as is. Soldier can harass Zenny, and if Zenny's careless kill him, and that's okay, the flip side also happens. Discord > 2 headshots is a dead 76. Same with Roadhog really, it's just controlling your spacing and not letting them get you in unfavorable encounters. Roadhog and Winston cannot take the heat of Discord because they're so fucking big and generally have to be fairly close to your whole team if your guys are sticking vaguely together.

I think their definition of tank is 'disrupting the enemy team's playstyle' rather than directly blocking damage to teammates. Reinhardt accomplishes this mostly by his big ass shield requiring the enemy team to either break it or flank, both of which require a commitment that can lead to a situation where his ult can then wreck their day.
Roadhog will create a pick and make a fight into a 5v6 real fast, while also being able to disrupt/shut down push attempts with his pushback ult.
Winston regularly causes the whole enemy team to focus on dealing with him because he does just enough damage that he can't be ignored, and is good enough at shielding that he can generally disrupt and get away.
D.Va is similar to Winston, but focused on different characters, and also has a large scale area denial ult as well her defense being a hard cancel to a number of offensive ults.
Zarya is a weirder pick, she's more like a mix of offense/support/tank, being slightly tanky, having utility to save teammates from shit like Junkrat ult, while also herself amping up to fairly ridiculously high damage. Zarya + Mercy can often singlehandedly deal with 4-5 of the other team via great shielding/healing, which is extremely disruptive to the enemy team, in a much more straightforward way than the other tanks.

I dunno, Mercy's the only one that's pretty strictly 'just heal' - even then she has opportunity to whip out her pistol from time to time. Mei dies as she uses her ult? Mercy's pistol is enough to take down all the assholes it caught.
It is also enough to often convince flankers to fuck off. If a Tracer/Genji isn't aiming particularly well, her pistol can certainly do enough to get them to run away or stay and die.
Still though, the vast majority of playing Mercy is just positioning. Not being in a position to die first (because they really want you to die first), having a known escape route (Pharah in the sky or Widowmaker in view) for when a flanker finds you, and being able to effectively heal without making yourself available. It's not easy, but it's definitely very healer.
I'd say try Lucio but people overvalue his healing way too much. Mercy does much less healing overall, but you have the ability to provide meaningful heals, while Lucio struggles to keep any single person alive at crucial moments.

Lucio can only really offensively shine on maps with accessible edges. Nepal: Sanctum, Ilios: Well/Lighthouse, shit like that. I've never been bored playing Mercy really, unless the team is ass.
And I've never really been that bored playing Lucio, but I do feel like "man I wish I was doing damage to stuff" at times. Sometimes I just end up switching if we're getting bodied anyways.
I think Lucio is a good step towards how healers should be in this game. Like at least he can defend himself (shut the fuck up 'Mercys gun is actually super good' fags, I'm not saying she doesn't have one, but most of your time is going to be spent purely healing) while Mercy is kind of..eh.
She is strange. She isn't useless, obviously, being healed is great, getting a damage boost is great and being able to res is great, but the idea that they created hero that i pretty much centered around not really attacking is kind of odd. Especially when you consider they made Lucio too, who isn't that.
There should be more Heroes like Reinhardt too, I mean ones who don't use some form of gun. I'm interested to see what new ones get released.

Not many games require players to be really good at tracing, but anyone from a quake background or hell even natural selection will be really fucking good at tracing.

You can also easily and consistently hit people in the head up close with his LMB, due to the nature of projectile weapon hitboxes. And due to him being tiny and moving in such weird patterns, as well as being able to randomly escape at retard speed, he is also fairly threatening up close.
I mean, it seems like you just really do not want to like Lucio/Mercy. Mercy's pistol hits plenty hard, Lucio's gun does plenty of damage and can be used for a variety of uses. Just because you're not the superstar 45 elimination McCree doesn't mean you didn't do damage/help your team. Can also save others from Mei/Reaper/Winston/[insert hero with close range attack]. I killed an entire team through Mei's wall with Hanzo's ult. It also totally impedes progress and line of sight by her own team. Her wall is great, but I feel it's balanced.
I hate how some Heroes pretty much rely on others to not be shit. I know, that sounds like a weird complaint for a team based game, but you can be the best Winston ever and it's not going to matter if everyone else is sucking balls. It's annoying.
Meanwhile, a great McCree, or good Widowmaker or good Tracer etc can still push their team through if they are decent but not great.

I don't understand this, her weakness is she has shit damage for her main weapon. Her boost can put her anywhere on the map, has a rediculously low cooldown, and can chase down just about anyone save maybe a tracer. Her defense matrix can totally nullify almost all oncoming damage in wide spread, including a number of Ults, and can be used with boost. Her ult isn't great, but its not really a weakness, and can even serve as a good way to regain health.
