What I did with my brother was him play super metroid, earthbound and some other stuff on a snes emulator.
He said he loved it, but that didn't stop him from playing cod, destiny and minecraft.
I did get him into dark souls, rayman 3 and the spyro games though. The problem is, even with the older games, he just gives up.

Funny enough copies of mother 3 are actually moderately expensive in Japan despite average sales, sold 400,000.
