The 480 is in between a GTX 970 and 980 and only rival a 1070 when in DX 12 mode. The speculated CU count for the PS4K/XB2 is around 32-36CUs with an expected performance of 4.14TFLOPs - 6TFLOPs.
So the R9 480X is likely going to be in the new consoles. This launch therefore is even better news. This means any games made on those consoles and ported over to PC, assuming the port isn't a massive trainwreck, will perform very well on the R9 480X. In CrossFire it will guarantee 1080p60 maxed out.

GPUs can do vector math much more easily than CPUs can, due to having a vast amount of shaders and significantly greater memory bandwidth than the CPU.
For every second, the GPU can do 5 trillion vector calculations. If you had a near 100% scaling in CrossFire, 2xR9 480Xs would be able to do 10 Trillion vector calculations per second; easily btfo'ing any console port ever; and so on.

Apis still have a glaring flaw that no matter what won't utilize gpu to their potential because they take too much power from the cpu to compile into machine code for your cpu.
