Ja2? I got a demo cd back in the day from a game magazine and then bought the game shortly after that. I think i tried it with 1.13 after reading about it on /v/.

Probably the best turnbased tactical shooter to ever be released. Too bad the "sequel" is trash.

Even more shooty sticks. But other than that it´s perfect. Could be a little more stable, i sometimes still get crashes.

How beginner friendly is JA2? Is there a campaign or more an endless game where you do random missions?

It´s pretty hard if you don´t have any experience in it. Especially if Drassen counterattack is turned on you´re gonna have a bad time.
The "campaign" is to deal with Deidranna (the big bad). You usually take over the other cities as well but you could theoretically just rush the capital.

1.13 adds much more complexity and improves AI somewhat
you have 1 (one) mission: kill the queen. along the way you have a bunch of quests along the way that will help you gain experience, money, guns/items and a few recruitable characters. your best stable source of income is to take over cities with mines.

Yeah, the damage isn´t always accurate. Also sometimes guns barely do anything against the elite soldiers. It happens way too often that you hit someone with a large-caliber rifle and he barely gets a scratch.
