WHY IS THE WRITING IN THIS GAME SO FUCKING TERRIBLE??
The main quest was uninspired dogshit, sure, but I honestly liked all the little stories that you can find when you explore all the different buildings. Some sidequests were fun as well. Bethesda was never good at writing main storylines, except for maybe Morrowind.

Objectively the story was better written than Fallout New Vegas, it was more emotional, trying to find your son and making the choice for Boston, much better than just picking which tribes you like more (New Vegas) I would say its better than fallout 3s story as well, although its hard to compare since they are 2 very different stories

Diamond City Blues was pretty well written. Your each action has different outcome that you get to see eventually. At one point I thought it was linear and just dropped a nuke on the drug deal to end it as soon as possible, but then some really influential guy made sure that I can never enter Diamond City again.
Silver Shroud was also a pretty entertaining quest.

First of all you need some really fucking good voice actors for all the people involved in the main quest at least if don't have good material to work with otherwise you get well Fallout 4.
