>"At doom's gate" starts playing
Aww yiss, this is going to be good
>It's a wubstep remix

I enjoyed the game but I was was really pissed at that. Such a wasted opportunity.

Beyond that (and being a bit too much tryhard "brutal doom" style) I enjoyed the game. If it manages to usher a new age of Doom-like FPS I would even forgive the glory kill mechanic.
>>
The music is generally pretty fucking good in my opinion. Lots of shades of System Shock 2.
>>
I'm talking about this particular version by the way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j05hzwQf8pA

I would have much preferred a straight heavy metal version like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q657rEkgfKs

>>339375579

I kinda expected more music continually during the gameplay like in Doom 1 or 2, I can't say I found the music very memorable overall but it wasn't bad either. It's only this dubstep version of "at doom's gate" that I found very mediocre and grating.

Metal as a music genre is already decades old, people who grew up with Metallica and Black Sabbath are now in their 40s, 50s and 60s.
nuDoom wasn't supposed to be 1:1 oldschool Doom, what it did was giving the old a modern spin.
The same design choice shows in the music.
Sorry if wubs are too new for you, gramps.
>>
>>339376691

But then why even play E01M01's music? It was obviously meant as a nostalgia trip for "gramps" like me. The "wub wub" kinda ruins it.

So it sucks for people like me who are stuck in the 90's and it's pointless for newer gamers. Good job.
>>
I think the music's so distorted because they don't want legal issues, but there are snippets of the original soundtrack mixed in with the noise.

The best E1M1 remake was scrapped along with the leaked trailer it was used in.

There are other ways to pay tribute to the past than just doing a 1:1 impression. That metal remix you linked would basically be the exact song they would have used in the original Doom if it wasn't for the MIDI limitations of DOS computers. Using that music would have been similar to simply copying the entire first doom game with nothing but improved graphics, to give a comparison.

That the wubs ruin it is really just how you feel, I personally like the nuDoom remix alot more, and in general can't quite connect to the really old metal music (the percussion is way to prominent for me, to name one reason).
But this is just how time goes on, I'm pretty sure I won't enjoy the music of future kids either just like older people don't like wubs.

nuDoom isn't Doom 1, it's a throwback whose goal was to take what made the old Doom great and combine it with modern elements, because we are living in the present right now and not 1993 anymore. There's no real point to just redo old things for the sake of redoing them.

I think the game did a great job at what it tried to do, but obviously taste is subjective.
>>
>>339377435
there are no legal issues the music is just industrial metal stuff and it fits the game pretty well imo, and you are right there are some snippets from the original doom some stuff from quake 1 and even that theme song from doom 3

I have a really hard time understanding how people would like this dubstep version but to each his own I guess. It's not even that I don't like electronic music, but this particular version sounds really uninspired to me. It doesn't have a lot of personality.

I can't wait for a mod to replace the music with something more to my taste! :(
>>
>>339377593
Noise with rhythm is music
Even if its terrible and sounds like a robot taking a shit, its still music
>>
>>339378141
I thought it's actually okay if they/Mick made it a bit more fast-paced. Playing it at 1.25x /kinda/ fixed that
>>
>>339375521
Eh, there's a lot of good music.

>>339378523
this is literally the only good track in the entire game, i've listened through all of them
>>
>>339378803
Agreed. Fantastic track though. Shame there weren't more like it in the game.
>>
>>339378523

Yeah that's pretty good. I think I just find "at doom's gate" remix pretty underwhelming. It sounds like baby's first dubstep remix. It's too much of the original to have a personality of its own and it's too different to really satisfy my nostalgia.

But I guess in the end I'm just not really a fan of that type of music.
>>
>>339378141
i honestly do not hear the amount of dubstep that people claim. if a bass synth with an increasing and decreasing cutoff fliter is dubstep, then this game doesn't have that much of it.

take this song: https://youtu.be/wTWIJEl042k
it has some dubstep 'sounding' synth lines but a lot of it is really really fucking low guitar.
>>
>>339378803
What about Dark Interval?
>>
>>339379605

I honestly don't know enough about dubstep to tell the difference, what I don't like is the literal "WUB" sound it has. It's annoying and it doesn't sound good to me.

It sounds a bit like all those action movie trailers these days, with super loud low "wub" sounds to catch the attention of the audience. It sounds cheap and generic to me.

Take the sequence starting at 0:32 here https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=32&v=j05hzwQf8pA

That sounds like it could be in the trailer to Transformers 8: Hell Boogaloo IMO.

The piece you're linked doesn't really suffer from this. Actually I didn't mind the rest of the soundtrack too much, it's really that one track that stands out to me.
>>
>>339375521
You're a PCuck, right?
Mod the countless metal remixes that exist into the game.
>>
>>339380083
i'll agree that some of the music does have that "WUB" sound but for the most part it gets drowned out by everything else.

the E1M1 remake is one of my least favorite songs in the game to be honest. that is one song i'll say that has the clear dubstep sound.

lots of other ones have very aggressive and pulsing bass that on first listen sounds a lot like it could come from a dubstep song, but actually ends up sounding more like industrial music.
>>
>>339375521
Go find the YouTube link of the song then increase the speed then it'll sound more like original. I don't mind the dubstep, it's tempo is too slow.
>>
>>339377779
>if it wasn't for the MIDI limitations of DOS computers
I take it you're retarded and don't know that MIDI is not much of a limitation right?
MIDI is only as limited as the amount of channels you give it, aka the polyphony.

DOOM soundtrack was composed with Roland SC-55 Synthesizer in mind, which was quite expensive back in the day and makes DOOM sound amazing.

I wish they went more industrial and metal instead of dubstep and metal. I mean the music isn't offensive but I wish they looked more to Quake and older Doom's OSTs for inspiration.

Also I'm really enjoying the game a lot. My only issue is that enemies don't really roam the maps enough and weapons sort of replace each other(mostly the shotguns and the plasma gun, everything else is fairly fine).

The levels kinda give me a Half Life 1 vibe, it's hard to say why. I guess just the big science installations and the whole shady science shenanigans going down kinda give me a HL1 vibe. Finding the demons in tubes reminded me of finding the aliens in tubes in HL1 as well.
