story: Passable. For me, it was hard to connect with the characters and world when so much is kept in their strict Japanese name because of the Jap-only dub. I love the often over-the-top English dubs.
gameplay: Great. There are two major types of 3D Tales combat systems, and Hearts R is the best of its type.
replay value: I think there's only one major optional dungeon in the end game? Still, there seems to always be one more character joining the party for lots of party variety, and the New Game+ lets you carry over a lot of progress. I'm not sure what you want from replay value from a jrpg.

Ludgar becomes unable to kill Julius, the entire party tries to snap you out of it, but Ludgar goes berserk and kills off the entire party. You and julius walk off while Bisley gets his wish.
On a side note, Bisley did nothing wrong and was completely correct and ultimately the best ending of all those available.
