Thoughts on Advance Wars?
>>
Feels good man.
>>
It's great.
Just one of those games where there's really not much to say, because there's not much to disagree about and discuss.

It's a great game.

It's SUCH a great game, I'm honestly surprised we don't have more of it going on right now.

I'd honestly settle for a Stardew Valley style "Only different due to copywrite reasons" indie remake at this point. I'm surprised we haven't got any of those going on right now
>>
>>339313173
It's a shame the series died. DoR is such a great game.

Started playing on the PSP Go. Fucking love it

That doesn't mean that it isn't effective if you are in a tough spot. Unless you are playing another person, that is.

I've seen a couple in gamedev threads around here, but I don't know if any of them went anywhere.

Can't blame 'em. Strategy game AI is a pain in the ass.
>>
>>339315550
They didn't censor it, they repackaged it for a western audience.

You see, here in America we prefer aesthetics over blatant sexualization. To us, a woman in a full Millitary jacket and skirt of moderate length is much more aesthetically pleasing than some white bitch trying to find out if I have an armpit fetish. Honestly if Nell looked like that on my GBA I would have flushed the game down the toilet, because I'd say it looks like shit.

One of the best turn-based strategy games ever made. The first DS game and the SNES game are the pinnacles. The GBA ones are also amazing. NES one is cool.
>>
I don't get the FE comparisons. FE was trash after the Super Famicom games, long before they stopped making Wars games.

So clearly they were capable of making fantastic Wars games and bad FE games simultaneously.
>>
>>339313964

i was kinda skeptical of a grimdark reboot of Advance Wars, but I did enjoy it and I liked how they dialed down the craziness of the COs and the balance a lot

also the OST was banging

What tips would you guys recommend for the GBA game's final mission using Andy, Grit, and Sammy?

Have fun.
>>
>>339324668
Grit can't do much once his predeployed missiles run out of targets. The best way he can contribute is by making a ball of artillery around his HQ as meteor bait. Let Andy take blue's designated neutral properties. Sami shuttles in mechs for support.

>it's 2017
>a new Advance Wars game comes out
>you hadn't really paid attention to the franchise for years after you thought they stopped with DoR
>the people on the front look kind of like generic anime characters, but that doesn't matter
>start the game up
>opening cutscene is a not-that-convincing new-new evil army, not Black Hole, Caulder's army or The Beast's raiding party
>first mission is a simple tutorial mission
>you notice your new main commander is a bit on the young side, he looks like he's nineteen
>he has two main advisors who are both female, both dolled up a bit too much for a war game and the story puts quite a bit of emphasis on their personal interest in him
>you begin thinking "what does this have to do with advance wars"
>a few more simple missions later, too simple you say, and there's this long cutscene where they both confess their love to you, aka the main character
>your next three hours consist of no advance wars-style missions, instead choosing which you to marry, go on a honeymoon etc. etc, which all happens in cutscenes and barely any interaction from you
>sitting through it all out of sheer blind faith it's just some over-and-done-with part, the next mission goes for three turns before some cutscene kicks in where you would be defeated via a direct HQ surprise flank, but are then saved by your fiance and the power of love and the power of plot armor asspulls
>you then realise this game is done by the same people who made the new Fire Emblem games
>turn off the game, go back to the store and get a refund, utterly disgusted and discontent at what you just played
>go on /v/ to see if everyone else feels the same way
>the first thread you see is a 350-post long waifu discussion between both of the initial 'choices' and some more that apparently show up later on
>they're praising it and said they never liked the 'edgy' war gameplay anyway

The series is really fucking great, I'm a very exigent fan of strategy and tactical games and this was one of the few times that I was completely satisfied with a game, for me the elegancy of the gameplay rules and the level design leaves little to be desired.
>>
>>339325883
FE was always a franchise made by hardcore Otakus. They just couldn't go full-weeb mode until Awakening since Nintendo wanted to make all their all-star franchises market toward kids.

Advance Wars had more westernized-art, even though it was an eastern game. I doubt they would add a dating sim to it.
>>
>>339328142
>if anyone found FE9 hard then they need to git gud.

There are people who pretend it is.

>also your a salty "muh k rool addition" smash fag

>>
God I loved these as a kid, I would have preferred a non grimdarked sequel but i might just be mourning my grit senpai
>>
>>339327917
Bullshit. FE6-10 didn't have waifutrash and actually focused more on the plot than the romance until the happy ever after epilogue due to the support system.
>>
>>339328597
There's a difference between "not samurai" swordsman unit is the best in the game and the family-sim/dating-sim shit in the current games.

The family building and shipping shit is female-oriented to boot, and none of the FE games until recently were remotely female oriented.
>>
>>339327917
not him, but
I started with sacred stones and although I don't feel awakening was much more or much less challenging I feel the character interaction was weaker, the plot mildly less interesting, and the character's themselves less interesting, and overall imo Awakening lowered the bar for what the series was or needed to be, not by much tho, desu people on either side of the fence, the side claiming awakening ruined the series, and the side claiming it changed nothing, are retarded
>>
>>339328748
>There are people who pretend it is.

Who the fuck thinks this? Ike alone puts this game on babby mode, even without Ragnell.

damn son neither of these things happened in Awakening or Fates, have you even played them, or just listened to memesters who told you scary stories about slippery slopes?

I knew several people who beat the game but DID NOT KNOW you could marry people, because the game never forced them to do anything of the sort.

Stop being such a bitch.

also, I like how even if everything in your post happened, that doesn't affect the actual gameplay. stay mad.

What would your reaction be if the next advance wars got to be even more edgy and brooding than the last one about war and all. Like the units which got defeated are actually counted and the CO's actually have a more mature outlook on war and not suddenly lets be friends.

Just asking.
Am perfectly fine if Advance wars continues with its cheery style, just the story itself kinda was at times a bit kiddly like, at least the european version i had was.

Good series but ended so soon.
Would be a better match as a mainstream game than FE since its cartoonish and easy enough for casuals.
And there's literally no sexualizing of the characters. None at all even when the series was alive.

FE is meant to be taken seriously. AW isn't, at least until DoR came out.
A new Wars game (aside from needing to be named NX or 3DS Wars like the original Famicom Wars games were) needs to have that same "let's go to war and act like it's a board game" kind of feel. Not "DO YOU FEEL LIKE A HERO YET?" kind of shit.

I never finished any of the games. I played AW 1/2 and the two DS games.
At some point the missions become so tedious and drawn out that I dropped every single one of them.
I really like the series, but I never had the patience to start a really long mission over from scratch because I made some irreparable mistake. Maybe I should replay and beat the original someday, but there's so much other shit on my log that it's probably not gonna happen.
