From the benchmarks I've been seeing you're generally looking at about a 20% difference between the two depending on the game. Sometimes the difference is like 10fps and sometimes it's over 20, but there's no way people won't be flocking to the 1070 considering they were still buying the 970 up until the Pascal cards were announced. A teaser of it running Doom on a 144Hz 1440P screen does not necessary mean that it runs it smoothly at that resolution, it also does not tell you about settings that are used.
My guess is that the card will offer performance around the GTX 980 and would be priced lower than the 1070, and would probably compete with the 1060.
Dark souls 3 runs almost maxed out on my gtx 660.

That was only 7 months and it was supposed to come out in April but was delayed because of a problem at the factory where they made the chips.
So far no word on any problems at the chip factory so it should stick to previous patterns of coming out 4-5 months after the the regular version.

Nvidia is definitely feeling the fear. For the first time in years they're just okay.
What's the overclocking capabilities looking like? Going by the reviews, they're only hitting around 1.8GHZ on average. I remember reading initial previews saying it had the ability to hit 2.4GHZ on air, but no reviews so far have come close.
I wanted one to overclock to see if it can hit 4K resolutions at 60FPS since reviews leaned towards about 40 on average maxed out. I figured with AA off at 4K (it's 4K, not needed) and some OC'ing it could come close, but maybe not.

I only really follow gpu news when i'm looking to upgrade, i've been following these pascal threads here and on /g/ and i'm suprised to find that evga is so highly regarded. The only non ati card to ever die on me was an evga card, all of my other nvidia cards are still working to this day and evga refused to honor their warranty on the card. Customer support ran me through a loop for nearly half a year before I gave up. it surprises me that not only do you guys love evga but you point to their customer support as the reason you like them.

They're way up in the air right now but I'm not overly optimistic for them. The Polaris 10 GPU's look like they're going to compete with the 1070 in terms of performance and price. You're paying around $300+ for 980TI performance. That's about it. On an enthusiast level, they have nothing.
I wouldn't count AMD out as far as a monopoly goes. They have their contract with Apple, Xbox and PS4, and Intel got out of the APU market leaving AMD in a very good position with Polaris 11 if they're good. They've obviously got other shit cooking, but these GPU's aren't looking to compete high-end.
