This, seriously. Sure it wasn't groundbreaking gameplay-wise but it still hand some interesting ideas and it was polished as fuck. The art direction was also absolutely killer. It's one of my favorite games aesthetically.

I'd like a remaster of the first one in a couple years when the graphics will really blow the original's away. The original oozed atmosphere, it really nailed that aspect of the game. The only other game I've ever played to this date that achieved a similar feeling was Alien Isolation.

The plot and characters god fucking damn... you had three non-characters (fat scientist guy, generic gruff military cardboard box and black woman who gets terrified on a lift) and a horde of rage inducing dickheads. Ellie is now a cunt and has a BF teehee to wind up Isaac. Her bf also happens to be one of the biggest pricks in the universe, almost rivalling donick for being someone who needs to be beaten to death. And then there is the plot, where Isaac is a cuck desperately seeking ellies attention despite her transformation into a cunt... in fact he pretty much gets destroyed personality-wise (fuck exploring isaacs character... the best you can expect now is him quipping about something being a useless pile of junk). And then we have the ending where he gives donick everything he wants (why even bother doing anything??? Donick would have been necro dogfood long before he could stick the thing in the thing - thankfully Isaac is on hand to give him the machine thing to save that rotten cunt ellie - god how did they ruin her so much since 2???
But don't worry, Isaac is fully aware that the galactic life exterminator would become a boss fight where you can beat the shit out of it. Those advanced aliens must have been massive faggots as Isaac slaughtered a cthulhu planet all on his lonesome, he makes doomguy seem tame

Little stupid design decisions like why the fuck do enemies drop ammo every time you kill one.

Not having them drop anything would make the player more unsure if the situation is save. He could pump another rounds into the downed enemy to make sure he's dead or aproach him and kick him to save ammo but potentially be attacked.

But as it is now you just shoot at them and wait till they drop their ammo like some pinata. Really killed the atmosphere for me.

I just replayed it and it holds up well. It's the only Dead Space game that really tries to maintain and atmosphere in both its story and gameplay. Everything seems hopeless and the never-ending fixing the Ishimura missions leads towards the image that nothing you're doing is really stopping the necromorphs or getting you out.

The gameplay on the hardest difficulties still requires stasis and telekinesis use to conserve ammo but both features work adequately.

The lore is also some of the creepiest shit before Dead Space took a nose-dive and the record-logs still give the system shock vibe.

Really it's as good as action horror can get next to Resident Evil 4. RE4 had better highs with the village, but I feel Dead Space maintains it's consistency better for longer.

The sequels may be better for gameplay due to weapons or upgrade systems, but I feel that a lot of the spirit of dead space was lost in translation with each installment.

It has a couple of shitty issues on PC technically, but they can be easily circumnavigated thankfully.

I always see Alien in deadspace, 1 is the most tense and claustrophobic whilst 2 is the more likeable action horror oriented title

Because spamming ammo drops or credits that you find on the ground would make it easy for them to fall through the game world. Fuck in 2 I accidentally lost one of the puzzle pieces I needed during the Unitologist Church. I had to reload a save from 3 hours earlier. Hardcore Mode can kiss my ass.

Dead Space 1's only benefit was atmosphere. Most of the secondary weapons were worthless like the Pulse Rifle damage as so low and the alt fire so bad that you were entirely better off ditching all the other weapons and using the plasma cutter and maybe the Ripper for little fuckers inside the pregnant Necromorphs.

how to fix DS1 issues:

disable vsync
run radeonpro (or it's NVidia equivalent) and force vsync
find the game settings file (hidden files shit under user) and push sensitivity slightly beyond maximum to fix the crippled mouse aim (this bug happens due to disabling the games horrifying vsync)

so make 1.00000000 into 1.00000001

you can now enjoy DS with no bullshit

They were annoyed with how linear it was, and full of action. Fucking 1 was just as linear, you just had more empty rooms and ambushes to deal with. Also the Flamethrower being the most useless weapon in the series until 3 came out.

I think that's mostly it.

2 was pretty much perfect. Watching Isaac Mcguyver new weapons, FUCK SHIT DIE MOTHERFUCKER FUCKER, Stalkers, exploding babbies, the sun, the list goes on.

Controls were much more polished and tighter than in 1 and the diversity in environments was refreshing.

3 wasn't the worst thing in the world. I really liked how Isaac could build robots that would go out to collect resources or how he could make his own weapons. Story wise and aesthetic wise it wasn't as solid as 1 and 2 but I got it for like $10 and had a blast with it.

Hard to do horror when you're used to the jump scares, desensitized to the unnerving enemy designs and are all too familiar with the game's mechanics themselves.

3 was a good game in and of itself. I liked the nonlinear approach to secondary quests.

Plot was the weakest point as was the literal cuckoldry.
