Holy fuck, can't these people learn better writing skills?

The only mistake in Cave Story is the requirements to get to Ballos. You'd never think of them normally and unless you mash your face for hours again and again trying to complete it, you'd need a guide, cause none of them come out as "obvious" or "possibilities."

It's intentional

intentionally shit writing is still shit writing

Doesn't change the fact that Cave Story is shit, and the only reason it gets any praise it's because it was free
>completely devoid of challenge
Did he even attempt to get to the Blood-Stained Sanctuary?
no, he's a fuckwit

Still not getting that bump though. You need way better bait for that.
what or whose rating is it over rated compared to?

The clues are there. Yes, you need to finish the game once in order to see all of them, to notice there was more.
He is not.
The game is challenging enough. Most of the players can't save Curly, and even getting there requires you do the things in the hard way (progressing without jetpack, no machine gun or phasing gun, alternative Last Cave).
Excess of save points? The Last Cave doesn't have any, then you have to beat 3 bosses without saving, and then you have the whole Sanctuary.
>Fetch quests.
The only backtracking in the game also works as one of the best secrets in game history. So clever made that no other Metroidvania with exception of La Mulana has such complexity.
