Not at all. The scene is laughable because the "pro" league is made up of randoms who bothered signing up, and their matches show just how awful most of them are. The updates are held back because Ubisoft thinks tournaments take priority over every other person who bought the game. This has led to some broken as fuck things set loose in games (pubs, ranked, and competitive) and we can't have a single update to fix them because "muh esports".
A prime example of this was Glaz being able to to shoot a Castle barricade and destroy it for his team, but for Castle and his team it was still intact; the result was the team with Glaz could essentially shoot through barricades and have vision in the room and the team with Castle can't do shit in return. They actually had to ban Glaz from competitive play because Ubisoft would not allow an update to pass during the tournament.
Like I said, I envy Overwatch's marketing and how it's being handled. Just a comparison of the two games:

You know, I actually kinda wish I bought this game instead of Total War Warhammer.
Even though Warhammer does give that feeling that there can be more to the game, or as if though you are just getting a taste for what is to come, the game is extremely fun as fuck and pretty smooth. But there barely are any discussions for the Warhammer game in this board. Have to wait for someone to post something every other hour.

DVDs cost about $10 and give you 2 hours of entertainment. The average high profile game can cost anywhere between $40-$60 and provides about 8-10 hours of entertainment on average based on single player alone.
Taking multiplayer into account, a game like Overwatch can give people over a hundred hours of entertainment, so naturally, a lot of people are more than happy to make the investment.
