Back in the day I had to wait years for games to drop in price. Now because of the impatient it often only takes a few months. I love pre-orders and day 1 purchases because of that.
I mean obviously I don't buy anything day 1. That would be stupid. But I love that other people do.

Because if you don't buy it in the month in comes out you basically not supporting developers at all. The bulk of the game revenue are made in the first month after release. Decision if developer who made this game will get the money to make more games or gets closed is made shortly after the first month after the game's release.
