I love playing Soldier 69. He's a spectacular harasser, mows down support/squishy characters fairly easily with decent aim from relative safety, counters Pharah fucking HARD, and allows you to play solo fairly effectively while still being a strong team player.
I mean, he's not OP. If you're pubstomping you're going up against shitty players. Soldier 69 can't do everything on his own. Tanks whip the shit out of him, it takes a single Reinhardt to make Soldier 69 completely useless, when he's distracted (which happens often) he's sniper fodder, and his low HP means that he melts under concentrated fire fast.
He's like any other character in Overwatch: excels at some things, sucks at others, is meant to be played as a team. People just naturally gravitate toward Soldier 69 'cause he takes what people know from old FPS's and makes it easier to transition into Overwatch's gameplay. I notice most people that play Soldier 69 eventually gravitate toward other classes before long. So too will OP.
