Things in gaming that will always scare the hell out of you?

They're just so damn unnatural and eerie looking.

Large bodies of water.

It never fails to be unnerving in every fucking video game.

Dark Messiah of Bootan Kickan did spideys very well. Always have some sort of burning on hand when you see webs.

Dropping out of bounds and infinitely dropping down. Had it happen in DS1 while sliding down a ladder.
Also underwater parts of games. Especially if the body of water is murky or the draw distance is low. I blame PS1 for this personally.
Thanks Tomb Raider 2, thanks Ape Escape, thanks Demo one.
>>

most people here are used to sitting in a chair doing absolutely nothing
in deep water you're forced to exercise or die horribly

>lump in throat
>can simply walk back right then and there

>have to stop and tread water halfway across because I'm tired, probably because my heart was racing faster than it ever had before I even kicked off
>panic, because some unimaginable horror is gonna get me if I don't drown first
>I'm closer to the island than the shallow water, so I commit and keep swimming
>get across without being eaten by Cthulu or Jaws
>become afraid of slipping off the rocks so I stay in the fucking water as all the other boys climb
>eventually get up, a few of them had jumped and were climbing back up for another go
>look at that fucking abyss and my mother on the other side
>look at the outcrop of shallow rocks under the one we're jumping off
>get told by the older kids to jump out as far as I can, and pin drop so I don't hurt myself on impact
>fuuuuuuuuuuucccccckkk
>jump out, pin drop, sink so low I feel like I'm in the black part
>surface and swim straight back to shore
>didn't even cry

Found out later they'd actually had shark attacks in that trench, because there's an awesome reef further down the beach that's full of sea life that attracts predators

Fuck lads I still dread that island when I go home, though these days it's quite comical too because it looks like a pens, head and all, with a few shrubs growing out the top that makes it look like it's busting a nut

But goddamn that place taught me about primal fear

Breh. Besides the extreme cold means everything got slow as fuck metabolism so they can go months on a single meal. A lot of stuff down there doesn't even go after prey, it just scoops up and subsides on the detritus that floats down to the bottom.
>>
>>339263273
>and they'll burst
That's generally not how pressure works. Also, what's to say they'll come back up and not just wait down there where they're comfortable, for us to foray down again?

>There's nothing huge and fantastic down there. We know because science
This is contradictory, and you should feel bad for typing that. Science only "knows" when it has proven, in the environment and conditions we are aware of, that said thing is completely true. Science can hypothesise all it likes about the deep deep sea, but it does not know anything as of yet.

I have, that's not how pressure generally works. If you take a human up to lower pressure environments we don't suddenly burst, do we? You have to shove a person out into the vacuum of space to get a body to "burst", and that's an extreme lack of pressure there.

Now, where are your arguments again other than shitposting about some "epic awesomeness" or whatever nonsense?

>If you take a human up to lower pressure environments we don't suddenly burst, do we? You have to shove a person out into the vacuum of space to get a body to "burst", and that's an extreme lack of pressure there

>>
>>339264918
It has to be an extreme difference in pressure, which leading some deep deep sea creature up to less deep sea isn't going to achieve. As a sentient creature it will most likely start to notice warning signs of lessening pressure (as we experience popping eardrums, discomfort), and just turn around and swim back down before it "bursts".

Also as far as deep water goes i feel like i have this fear but have gotten over it at times. I as on a boat with some friends
having a birthday and we were swimming in those channel areas with all the water front houses and i wanted to see how
deep it was so i would swim down, someone would get on my shoulders, someone would get on theirs and then another
on theirs, it was ice cold and pitch black and i was touching the bottom with 3 people standing on top of me and for some reason i didn't even feel fear.
