if i was working for FROM, i would make two very alternate paths for the player character. one is where you beat iudex gundyr and do the quest normally, and the other one is when you let him beat you and throw you over a ledge. this starts the abyss mode (i'd make it like a covenant of champions from da2, except much harder and with a series of truly overpowered NPC invaders taken by the abyss). separate endings for each ofc

I actually found Champion easier than Iudex. He was also one of my favorite bosses. Straight up 1v1 duels with other humanoid fighters are the best. His combos were beastly and it just felt cool to successfully dodge all his kicks and shoulder barges. I play naked with a greatsword for that high risk/reward business.
The giant abyss snake Gundyr was harder, but just stupid. Impossible to figure out its multi-limbed telegraphs without trial and error. Couldn't even tell how he was going to attack me and with what.
