The combat system is not the problem here. It's the fact that moving from place to place take ages, and you have to travel a lot. Gerald is slow as fuck, and the zones, yet seeming small, feel huge and are filled stupid invisible walls.
Beside, the story, that /v/ sold me as an awesome and complex odyssey, was really bland. The only motivation I found was the girlsand the best one, Shani, is basically irrelevant to the plot.

Hitting enemies has zero response, hit detecting is shit, dodge is near useless with not i-frames, all melee attacks come out almost randomly. At worst it's mindless button mashing for weak enemies, which is most encounters.
Boss fights are fucking awful as well.

I would blame it more on the engine they used. If I'm not mistaken it's the same shit one Bioware used for Mass Effect/Dragon Age, just a bit edited. I personally liked the way everything feels so big and comfy in a way.
Story was fine and you could pick a lot of choices on the way, too. Kalkstein and Thaler are great characters, also.

TW1 is literally the epitome of old CRPG's and also one of the last ones. What a fucking high note to end the genre with.
TW2 is literally CDPR's try to get that sweet console money after getting sued to oblivion for trying to make another console game. Corporate interests are very clear in the design.
TW3 is literally what Fable 3 should have been. It's simple but sweet and charming. Consolized to oblivion as well but it blends better than TW2.
