I found Lady Maria more fun to fight than Ludwig and was almost as challenging. I wish the DLC stuff replaced The Nightmare of Mensis in some capacity, found that area really dull. I liked it's scenery but the gameplay in those areas felt really uninspired, like they'd run out of steam by that point.

Which games you talking about? Many of them aren't, because they don't actually contain roleplaying. Almost all "JRPGs" for example. Turn-based combat isn't roleplaying, leveling up and distributing points into stats isn't roleplaying, choosing a combat class isn't roleplaying. The only roleplaying in Bloodborne is your freedom to kill certain NPCs or not, but it has almost no bearing on the game world and there is not really a "story" to influence so it's so negligible it's not worth considering.

It has the best replay value of any of them because literally anything besides the Ladle is viable, the levels are so short that new playthroughs are basically boss rush mode, and there are five directions you can go in right from the start.
But the story is a bit rubbish and the visuals are all over the place. Some parts look great, but then you have N64 forest and the poison gas level from WoW. I'd still rather replay it than DS3 though.

it's a rather unmemorable area in a dlc which has two much more memorable levels.
just to name a few in the soulsborne series, most of latria is better, most of boletaria is better, shulva, brume tower and eleum loyce in their continuous entireties are better, lothric castle/grand archives is better, irithyll is better, the original cathedral ward area is far better, central yharnam is better, old yharnam is better, archdragon peak is better, and cathedral of the deep is better.
Mind though, that's in terms of level design.
In terms of bosses, orphan of kos is far better, nameless king, twin princes, and pontiff sulyvahn were also in my opinion, better than ludwig, especially as his first phase was relatively shit compared to his second both in terms of visuals and music.

Depends on what you value in graphics. To me, the fact that I can downsample DS2 from 4K and still get 60fps makes it a better looking game than DS3. Obviously DS3 has better geometry and textures and skyboxes, but when there's distracting jaggies and framerate dips that doesn't count for much. Also I think the lighting is actually worse in DS3.

Also, hunter is not much of a role in this case, even when there are no other roles to compare it to. Your role as hunter amounts to just playing an action adventure game (the action is the reflex-based combat, the adventure is the exploration and trap/puzzle solving).

What do you think is done in ANY tabletop game at all? Players choose their characters, or at the very least, choose how their characters will develop. They are not given a completely pre-written character in which all non-combat situations are narrated to them by the DM, and only participate in the dice rolling turn based combat scenarios. Roleplaying games have always been about more than the combat; the players participate in the social aspect too, and make decisions on how the story and their character progresses. Games that were just about the turn-based combat were called hack and slash games — roleplaying games without the roleplaying.
Now, do you see anything more than combat happening in Bloodborne? I honestly don't. Yeah, you have the freedom to kill NPCs. This does not progress the story or your character though in any meaningful way aside from maybe giving you access to an item.

I haven't really played them enough. But from what I understand, those games do give you minimal ways to influence how the story progresses, and lets you play a slightly different Geralt than other players might (a meaner Geralt, or a nicer one, or whatever). It's very very minimal, but the element is present in those games way more than in Bloodborne, enough that it deserves the RPG title more than those games, as far as video games might go. But those games are closer to Bethesda RPGs in essence, which don't hold a candle to games like Deus Ex, or the older D&D games.
