Games you literally could not finish due to their difficulty.

I could for the life of me get past the tentacle monster boss when I first played this game. I bought Ninja Gaiden Black a few years later and ended up beating the boss on my first try.

>Ninja Gaiden Black
was easier.

this is the toughest game I ever played, on hard anyway. I'm not one for playing challenging games, I play vidya for fun.

This one on hard. 9 year old me couldnt beat the final boss on level 6 i think. If you didnt play this game on hard, the game ended earlier.

Why do casuals always say this, as if the two things are mutually exclusive?
In fact, for a lot of us, challenge creates fun.

Still the hardest Ninja Gaiden game, at least in its US release.

Thats something that gets me too. Challenging yourself is fun, or is where the fun should be. Most people play games just to add them to their library of finished games.
Hell, i still play DMC3SE and other old games just for fun.

Special Edition sucks though. It's annoying you have to wade through the "Normal" mode just to unlock US Normal.

Because children need more difficult games, obviously. Otherwise you get stupid, dumb, casuals.

Baby's first Ninja Gaiden fans truly are the bottom of the "le hard meme" barrel.

>>339157747
That's call narcissism, you sociopath.

Challenging yourself is inherently the act handicapping yourself. There's a reason amputees or "retarded" kids are referred to as "mentally challenged".

Before Cave Story had achievements, people ran through the game on minimalist mode for no reason but to challenge themselves, or just to see if the game would even acknowledge it.

Data mining and Achievements are cancer. We need to go back to hidden shit and developers filing C&D on data mining websites.

>Those fucking zombie archers on the platforms right before the dragon skeleton boss
>Block flying swallow and all non-exploding shurikens
>Need expendable projectiles or just really well timed jumping+melee attacks
>One arrow can break your guard or knock you straight off the ledge
>Respawn every time you fall down
I hated those fucking things. Probably the most frustrating part of the entire game. One of the few good things about Sigma was fixing that fucking section to be less awful.

I gave up on this game when I was fighting the succubus boss in the church. I was playing on normal difficulty and still got one shotted/combo'd to death if I made a single mistake. It wouldn't even be that bad if the game didn't make me fight my way back to the boss room after every death.
>>
>>339159338
no problem, faggot
>>
I beat it, but I had to farm the mosters that spawn outside the club near the silver xbox that restores all your HP.
>>
>>339159575
>It wouldn't even be that bad if the game didn't make me fight my way back to the boss room after every death.
There's a save point in the water tunnel just before the boss. If you save after the initial encounter at the top of the elevator, you don't have to fight anything at all before fighting her.
I beat that stupid bitch on the fucking terrible Vita port, and that thing is near unplayable. Go back and try again.
>got one shotted/combo'd to death if I made a single mistake
Did you miss every single life of the gods/thousand gods, or something? I didn't know she could even do that much damage in one combo.
>>
>>339157243
is that you Daniel? i bought this game for my buddy on his birthday when this game was first released and this was the exact reason he couldn't finish it.
>>
I really want to play this game again but I don't have an Xbox

what's the current state of xbox emulation?
>>
>>339160053
OP here, nope. But I also bought the game on release in the 6th grade. Luckily back then trade-ins could still get me a decent amount of store-credit at EB Games.
>>
>>339160292
>>what's the current state of xbox emulation?
Never, ever
>>
>>339160292
You can get it on 360 instead. The digital version actually runs really well, probably the fastest version in terms of loading time (which is a relief whenever you get killed and have to reload).

Alternatively, you could play Sigma on PS3 or Vita...can't really recommend it though.
>>
Literally impossible
>>
>>339160653
I had the GBA port of this as a kid and got so good at it that I finished it with 10 deaths. Went back to it recently and nearly ragequit at Death Mountain. My first playthrough had 120 deaths.
>>
>>339157243
This game has a special place in my heart. I bought it on a whim because I like ninjas for a few bucks and brought it home only to have it kick the ever loving shit out of me. I literally couldn't beat the first boss and he was your buddy, you guys were just clowning around. Didn't need to knock him down to zero but I still lost repeatedly.

Stopped playing for months.

Went back to it because I didn't want to be defeated by a game and I did like the gameplay and was able to beat that first boss. Went on a rampage and got all the way to the second last boss. The guy from the underworld. He'd fight you, then spawn enemies, then spawn mini bosses from earlier in the game, then fight you, then repeat. It was fucking brutal.

Quit for a few months.

Said fuck it, went back and finished it. Felt fucking fantastic to know I beat a hard game, especially since I wasn't all that great at games back then.
>>
>>339159037
Most of the old games i still play dont have cheevos, and even if they did i wouldnt give two fucks about them.
Going back to DMC3, the game has so much shit to learn that you never really grasp everything that the game has to offer on just a few playthroughs. Its like a fighting game, where you learn different techniques and shit and then try to put them into practical use.
People now just breeze through games to say that they "finished them" without even learning something about the game.
>>
>>339160584
The cutscenes are unwatchable when playing on 360 but that's really not a big deal.

Ecco the Dolphin 2 (Genesis). I had to use debug to look at the final stage (which is pic, scary af when one of these things jumps out from nowhere and instantly bear hug kills you).
>>
>>339161006
Yeah, but honestly, you can watch those things on youtube if you're that fussed about it. NGB's cutscenes and story aren't exactly essential parts of the game experience anyway.
>>
>>339160653
I thought so, too. Until I grew up.

It's really not as hard as I remember when I was a kid. Worst part is honestly the Thunderbird.
>>
>>339159037
How is it a meme? Quitting a game or refusing to play one because it doesn't fit into your nice little hugbox comfort zone is literally fucking casual.

Wait, which guy was that? Maybe it's because I've been playing Sigma 2 lately that I don't even remember that one. Did they take it out?
