I bought the game on sale and played it for a couple weeks after the Overwatch beta ended. I needed a game that could fill that team-based void. This game tried to be it, but it just wasn't.
It's an objectively shitty game. The controls are wonky and floaty, and don't even have the tightness of the Borderlands games, let alone the controls a FPS/MOBA hybrid needs.
The campaign missions are basically strikes from Destiny- you grind the ever-loving fuck out the same 8 missions, and you get to listen to the fucking terrible story over and over. Remember the cringiest lines from Borderlands? This game's story is just a collection of those, that you'll be listening to on repeat until you beat the campaign.
Then, you unlock a HARDER campaign, and continue to grind.
It's shit.
The multiplayer is only slightly better. I found the control/domination playtype the only enjoyable one. The actual MOBA part of it sucked massive donkey dicks, which is a shame, because it COULD have been great. But it was killed by perhaps my biggest complaint with the entire game:
Throughout all of this, I DONT EVER KNOW WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON. I don't even mean that from a gameplay standpoint. Despite the infuriating lack of a tutorial for any of their game modes, you'll figure it out eventually.
What I'm talking about is the amount of fucking shit on the screen. It's like someone ate a bowl of fruity pebbles and spaghetti-os and just VOMMED IT UP, and decided to make a fucking game out of it. I will actually compare it to Overwatch for this part, because that's something both games can be compared about- OW is a clean as fuck game, it has insane moments and battles but you can focus- you're not overwhelmed at any point. In Battleborn I feel like I'm constantly battling the game to get control over my own sanity.

Visually it's hideous. There are maybe 3 or 4 appealing character designs in the entire game, and only 3 of those are sexually attractive enough to make porn of.
Sound is shitty like pretty much any shooter made today. Devs are afraid of having loud guns or gaudy music in FPS nowadays. The days of great sound design like Perfect Dark are long gone.
Story and characters are shit, worse than shit, they're Gearbox shit.
Gameplay is actually pretty damn good. The balance isn't perfect but it's not completely broken like the beta was. Both the gametypes are actually enjoyable which is more than I can say for Overwatch.
Skill does actually matter quite a bit. Benedict is deadly as fuck but only if you're good enough to hit shit with your rockets, same thing with the snipers getting headshots. Outplaying the other team gives you a huge snowball which is the way a MOBA should be.
The leveling stuff and the core ability stuff is neat, sadly like Heroes of the Storm, it's absolutely never a hard decision which powerup to take when you level up.
Characters don't feel to different, Overwatch definitely beats Battleborn in this account. Benedict's insane flight capability is pretty much the only unique movement mechanic for a character that feels different from the rest of the cast.
The campaign is shit though, only the competitive multiplayer is any good. For what it's worth I enjoyed Battleborn much more than Overwatch, but honestly neither is worth getting. the Call of Duty 4 port is probably going to be the best multiplayer FPS released this year.

Battleborn and it's release date were announced months before overwatch.
