The Forest's game trailer looked pretty sweet, but when it released it was a huge pile of crap, and still plays like crap this very day sadly

I get caught on very cheap sales or risky titles that may be too ambitious for the developer, but that usually doesn't foster a strong feeling of buyer's remorse. It's the odd occasion where I buy something I think I will like, or buy it based on reviews from /v/, friends, or a reviewer I like that I usually get remorse.
Watching gameplay videos just fucking solves the problems though. I think the Risen series and DaS are still the biggest thorns in my side.

You can't tell from a trailer and some screenshots if you'd like a game or not? I mean I can understand there are some instances where games turn out to be different than one they look and others where one might be unsure, but generally speaking you shouldn't have this problem.

Trailers generally are huge fucking spoilers, to be honest. I always avoid watching them whenever possible. I'd much rather pirate a game and decide if it's worth my money.

Trailers are only helpful if your buying criteria is the game having cute waifus. It's impossible to judge gameplay with them or with screenshots, and not even gameplay videos are always accurate.
