While it is true in most cases and the reason why I had only one game for 3DS (since today - two), there are exceptions in case of eShop and some local shops promotions.
For example, Etrian Odyssey IV and Untold 1 got permanent discount to 10 EUR in EU eShop two days ago, announced week ago. For me it was shock so big that I started to curse myself (since I bought physical copy for 40 EUR before) and needed whole week to calm down.
The second was from said local shop price down, 50% cut for Story of Seasons (physical). There was also price cut for Codename STEAM, Little Battlers Experience and Fossil Fighters but I thought that Harvest Moon in new version would be safer buy.
Because when you have to spend so much on video game, you need to be sure that you will like the game.

As EU player, it means constantly having to pay way more than people from US region, not to mention later releases or lack of such - for example, NIS America (that shitheads that never, EVER discounted games in EU, except for SMT IV - at least now EO IV and Untold got permanent price drop due to NISA stopping publishing 3DS games in Europe) got catfights with Atlus and now EU players have no idea, if Atlus games will be even released in Europe.
In case of non-region locked NDS, it was just a matter for paying more to import. In case of region-locked 3DS it means that either you import whole 3DS for huge price or go CFW.

In the glory days, Nintendo made things up as they went, they didn't self immitate. Miyamoto would experiment with gameplay, then choose which characters to apply after the fact. In the glory days, most of their games were not sequels, and games that were sequels were standout games in their own right, regardless of their antecedents.

that depends. Fire Emblem 13 and NSMB2 DLCs were atrociously expensive for what they offered. For FE13, 3 identical maps from older titles for nearly 7 bucks and they did this 3 to 4 times in a row with rewards that you won't really use unless you grind for hours.
The Mario Kart 8's DLC was great offering 16 tracks and 6 new characters for almost as much as the cost of one little small pack in FE13.
