How long does it usually take for you guys to finish creating a character in a game? I only take like 10 minutes but I always regret later. Pic related, I made a giant black man with dreadlocks and now I'm tired of him. Also wanted to make an old pervert male fighter, that used to be a skilled sellsword, as my pawn but got tired of him because all the voices are shit.

I just make it look somewhat close to me then absolutely drown him in armour so it doesn't matter anyway. I make it look like me more so no creativity is involved than any real self insertion, if a default looks good I might just take that instead.

I love Skyrim and Oblivion for setting the character creation screen in the actual game world to avoid this.
Happened to me in Dragons Dogma, heard you can change your character's appearance later in the game though so it's not playthrough breaking but for now I'm stuck with this autistic looking guy.

5000 RC and you can change your Arisen and Main Pawn at the same time.
Similar to >>339097858 I look at presets, but then customize them a bit. It keeps me from spending 20 minutes adjusting ear lobes while still giving me a unique character.
All in all, probably 15 to 20 minutes for one entire character depending on what kind of options are available. I really liked DD's use of preset features you can move around, I really hated the TES sliders. Sometimes creators give you way too much freedom.

I've done a process of elimination in these games, first you try to recreate yourself but a more handsome and fitter version of yourself.
If you can't, re-evaluate the game engine, it might be a piece of shit so it was impossible in the first place.
See if other people can create decent characters, check their sliders / sets.
Find face profile of suave TV actor people got no idea of and try to recreate that.
The female pawn you spend half a day on, figure out every option, the guy generally takes a good hour.
There's like only one set up to create loli pawn, but had to increase the height but still maintain 49kg below weight range.
