Tried Half Life 1. Dropped it after I got sick of the 1st person percision platforming and watched a LP so I knew the plot. I tried HL2 after but lost interest after I got to Ravenholm. I know that's supposed to be the worst part of the game and stays excellent afterwards but I can't be arsed to beat it.

I really liked the shooting in this one. The weapons felt like they had a lot of impact (especially the shotgun) and shooting enemies was satisfying. The plasmid powers were cool too.

Well, unless you can use G2A, get the original metro 2033 and ignore the redux and LL . IMO they aint TERRIBLE, it's just that redux has really shitty stealth and the game is too easy , even in very high difficulties.

Redux has a similar stealth. Its not bad, it's just that you get spotted and everyone knows where you are and they kill you quite fast. It rewards trial and error, not stragety.
Cyberpunk and explosions, what's not to like.
Insanely well optimized and more fun to play than the predecessor (though that one arguably had better story and presentation).

You get given the rocket-launcher, but if you play it blind, it feels like you should hold onto your rockets in case a gunship or strider turns up.
The gravity gun feel obligatory, especially in Ravenholm, but only the buzzsaws turn it into a proper" weapon, while puzzles almost entirely ignore it.
the antlion spore/summon thing is only usuable in a fixed section, so again, feels like you should be using it loads there.
episode 1 starts you with the gravity gun shit, and then drops you in a shitting "battery management" section since Alyx only shoots at Zombies if you shine your torch on them during the dark section.
AIs like Alyx or Barney get in the way a load.
HL1 is just much more open with letting you dick around and make your own weapon choices, gives a much tighter story progression, and feels more varied (even ignoring straight-up alien Xen)
