pretty much this, it's why greatswords are so good, in my opinion.
You can outtrade smaller weapons like straight swords and rapiers because you'll withstand the attack and get a second one in on them.
You can deal more damage to UGS and other weapons because you'll again, withstand the attack with your hyper armor and be able to attack again and retreat before they can.

I was always more of a Thrusting/Curved sword kind of guy but I'm growing fond of halberds lately. I got the BKG on my first character while my mage uses this since it can cast spells.
Feels pretty great, you can 2-hand it while keeping the magic boosting knife in your pocket. This combined with Affinity is fun as hell, at least one of my attacks will connect.

Flashsword looks awkward when you use it, your character starts swinging that heavy ass pole like it's nothing. Kinda dissapointed that the reach didn't extend all the way to the end of it too but I think it has about as much reach as the Heretic staff.

Didn't like the Heysel Pick as much since the magic adjustment seemed far weaker than an average staff, but I really how you can chain your regular R1 with Farron Flashsword really smoothly, which is why I keep a +4 pick when I'm feeling lucky. And it doesn't need any stupid Faith investment for it either, goddamit FROM, stopped fucking with INT builds.

At that point they always run to try and estus and I just running R1 to finish them off. This has happened 3-4 times revently with different invaders each time. probably my favorite thing about Heysel is that after casting a spell or two with it, when I later buff it people think it's an arrow and roll towards me to dodge, setting me up perfectly for a flashsword to jumping R2 combo.
