Game itself contain many flaws. Something unique (at least for me) is locking every-fucking-thing relevant behind Main Scenario Quest (or main story quest, it goes through Lv1 to Lv60). Basically you are forced to go through every MSQ, it makes you visit every single update ever released (this is cool in paper, but bad on MMO because its not optional)
Repetitive music/bgm. I don't mind repetitive bgm on actual FF games but this shit is different, on a side note this is the least "massively-multiplayer" MMO I have ever played.

I would just do 1-2 dungeons a day for the week and you should have enough for good gear.
PvP is insanely fun if you're into it. There is also Chocobo Racing. If you can't get into any of the raiding I recommend Trials. Any of the Extreme trials are fun. If you've already done everything you think is fun to you in the game then thats it.

It's a shame they never made trade skills worthwhile or improved cross classing. I really enjoyed playing through the first time, but all that time spent at level cap made me realize that FFXIV has far too many classic signs of MMO cancer: Horrible korean levels of grinding for the smallest upgrades, classes having one single optimal build and maybe two skill rotations at best, and dungeon queue from anywhere.
Fucked right off and never looked back.

If FFXIV went GW2 style and it was a one time 60$ purchase to play (not counting the expansions) would you be down to play it? Honestly the only thing stopping me from resubbing is the sub fee. It's some archaic shit.
I think my biggest issue with the game is it punishes you for taking breaks. Haven't played in a few patches? Guess what, you gotta plow through all that content you missed in a row to do any of the new things. Which wouldn't be bad, if it wasn't for the fact the game reuses so many things and if it wasn't super predictable. All the content seems to just rotate between "someone is possessed by an ancient evil" and "the beast tribes are doing their thing again".
When Heavensward came out I had been unsubbed for about 6 months. It took about 2 weeks of playing a couple of hours a night with friends to get caught up to be able to even start the new expansion. The whole time I was redoing the same few dungeons and stuff because some quest told me to. I can't even imagine coming into the game as a fresh player now and having to do the entire base game and all of Heavensward before you can do anything else. Some of the content you're forced to do is raids. Hardly anyone was queuing for old raids even then, and the ones that were were not exactly the best players.

The best RIGHT now is FFXIV hands down, yes it has it's up and downs but overall is very enjoyable if you take it slow, high lvl content is top tier too. I personally don't like grinding much so when I reached cap and went through all of the dungeons I quit and then came back eac 2-3 patches , to a new player you will definitely get your time and money worth, there is a free demo out too

I think the biggest turn-off for new players (at least what I feel) is that the quests in-between Primals (like FUCKING TITAN) are so goddamn draining. You hit Coerthas and you're right there, nearly at end-game Vanilla content and you just want to fucking die.

It worked in XI because you gear swapped constantly. In XIV implementing horizontal progression would require re-adding the stats they removed from 1.0 and expanding materia.

Lack of content aside, HW managed to make the gear even boring than before by neutering secondary stats to the point there's <1% difference between two gear sets of the same ilvl. That's not even touching the appearance which very few I know have found appealing

Remember how people complained that Anime relics had suboptimal stats? The fact is that SE have written themselves into the corner with only 3 DPS stats (Det, Crit, Spell/Skill speed - no hit on the weapons anymore). And since there were already two other weapons of the same ilvl ingames, they literally had no choice with what stats to use for them. This is how bad the FFXIV itemisation is.

The gear in HW is one of the worst things.
It's either all lazy recolors or just minor remixes of old gear.
Stats are a disaster that will never be fixed because SE doesn't give a shit about the game and will never pay a single dime more than they need to, because they've stolen all the sub money to fund XV and VII, and just need XIV on barely life support to keep bringing in dosh.
