Full skeleton stack with Blood Knight weathered multiple stacks of empire infantry and calvery until it was just a handful of skeletons, a single wraith, and the Blood Knight General. With Nehek spell he killed over 500 men, two lords, and routed the army with a sliver of health left because he was pushed into a corner.

>Agents once again are fucking pain in the ass to deal with. With AI's unlimited money, they will fuck you up and a high level hero can get out of control, wounding your leaders all the fucking time. Nothing is more legendary than having your emperor (who is surrounded by thousands of troops) wounded by one fucking chaos agent.
>Chasing armies. The AI deliberately moves his army that it's just out of range of yours. If you try to chase them, he will stance march away and you can't catch without having march stance or ridiculous amount of campaign movement +% bonuses. Yes, you can block armies with agents but since AI tends to spam agents, it can sometimes be hard to get an agent near their army alive and then actually succeed to block them.

Yeah Dwarf campaign can end up basically breaking if you get too many grudges you can't do anything about. And it's not always stuff that's even possible, some people have been given Grudges to kill x number of Vampire armies, AFTER they've already wiped the vamps out. Or missions to assassinate or do other agent-related stuff, which can be basically impossible with how hard AI agents are to deal with.

It's down to luck, and definitely needs some re-working so you only get grudges that relate to people that are nearby and are something you can actually deal with. Then again, Dwarfs are extremely powerful so it does help keep them from being totally OP. Even their basic units are strong as hell, they have a very large and detailed tech tree to let you specialize, and make money very easily.

It's important to remember that many of them will get up again. Cavalry charges look spectacular, but they're not as lethal as they once were. They can seriously disrupt a unit's formation, but they don't outright kill people as effectively as they have in some previous titles.

It does annoy me that there's just "shock cavalry" now. Unless I've missed them, they haven't given us any melee cavalry.

It's probably intentional, since they've done a lot of stuff to make sure you fight a greater number of open-field battles. They don't want them taking so long since there's more.

The series has been trending this way for a while, it was a big complaint for Attila. No time for manuevers, your line (or theirs) crumbles too fast.

This is always a main area of concern for the modders and Radious for example already has a mod package out that slows down the fights.

Abhorash was highly against open feeding that the Lahmians and Necrachs practiced, and were super pissed when the cities they were charged with defending started falling due to the other vamps pissing off other nations, so when their home city was torched they all fled and renounced the other blood lines and sought to reduce their need for blood. Abhorash dueled a fucking dragon and sucked it dry, beating the need for blood. Now all Blood Knights are either generals or serving in Knightly Orders ij order to be as great as Abhorash and like Walach. You can make your generals Blood Knights by following the afformentioned skill tree

Is it just me or are ranged units fucking useless in this game? Seems like you're better off with all melee and monster spam.

There also doesn't seem to be an effective counter to monsters or flying units either, other than having more monsters and flying units yourself.

Ranged units? Do you mean ranged infantry? They're a very significant improvement over Attila, the previous TW title, since they have much more ammo and do more consistent DPS, although the lack of shot types is kind of dongs. Artillery is also exceptionally strong, and Outriders are just plain broken.

They are always over the top for every game ever made. developers think its more fun if they are exaggerated. I always have to mod in proper physics for all my games i can because it triggers me skyrim and counter strike especially annoy me because its so much more satisfying with more realistic physics.

I can see myself not minding it too much for a game like total war though.

It's great, but it just makes me want a mod that allows you to select equipment and unique unit cards. The armor upgrades in M2 were FLY AS FUCK; as you improved each unit the model would change to represent the upgrades. I wish they'd implemented the same kind of system for WH so you could have units of the same type look at least somewhat different from each other.

I like the charges.

It's really fucking unsatisfying in Shogun 2 and Medieval 2 when you slam your shock cav full speed into the rear of an engaged enemy unit and they just bob to the side.

Unit displacement and disorganising is basically the main role of heroes/cavalry/monster units. Now they've gotten rid of kill animations, huge blobs of infantry melt fast when disorganised.

I wouldn't say so. They have decent range, plenty of ammo and will wreck shit if you're using them against unarmoured/unshielded units.

This has been countered by the fact that forests work as cover from missiles now (maybe they did before but now they visualise woodland blocking shots with a little fire effect).

I would say they're more useful than they were in Attila. They also reorganise and fire faster than they have in other Total War games.

Basically yes.

People are a little salty that the game did away the formation selection element that was basically 50% of Rome 2 and Atillas battles, but I think it wouldn't really work with the unit variety as the game is about selecting the right units I counter the enemy rather than picking the right formation.

The downside to that is that the game is a little dull when you're playing Empire vs. Empire factions because they lack special units that need countering.

I have tried hammer and anvil (Difficult to pull off because they refuse to fight), doom stacking (my units break almost the second they smell a dwarf). What the hell is the secret? I guess to get it to run better, which is why they gutted half the features that have been standard for years too. Apparently they really needed this one to do well (the backlash from Rome 2 and Attila must have hurt their bottom line more than they let on) and that relied on being playable on a much wider range of machines. Pretty disappointing, but oh well, better than a slideshow.

Yeah, having the same problems. The Dwarves are 100% broken. Thorgrim Grudgebearer (or Captain Battle Stroller as I call him since I thought he was on wheels at first) is quite possibly the strongest unit in the entire game and he can single handedly wipe out an army unless you have a Lord a few levels higher than him to beat him down with. Their ranged units are stronger melee fighters than most dedicated melee units in the game. They pretty much are unbreakable unless you can get cavalry charges behind them but even they'll fight a lot longer than any other faction except VC who fight to the last. They have fucking cannons and helicopters for fuck's sake. It's ridiculous and killing the fun of the Ork campaign significantly, especially now that I've taken over almost the entire Badlands area and they have no other Ork factions to be distracted by.

Bruh just kill them. Like I don't know what to tell you but the "Dwarf" faction you have to kill as an objective goal was dead in my Greenskin game by turn 50. I went ham on them. Get a WAAAAGH! running around fucking them over and then sweep in with Azhag/Grimgor.

The quest battles themselves actually have a button you can press on the quest details popup that for a gold cost can just teleport your lord and his army to it.

Then when the battle is over your dudes are back where they were.

Hammer and anvil worked for me most of the time. Boys up front and wolf riders to flank. Only problem is that the dorf crossbowman can fucking out melee the wolf riders, so it gets problematic at times.

Ever since I recruited an Arachnaros spider though it's been smooth sailing. This thing is a godsend.

There's no tech tree, and their unit roster is not fully complete, but they're playable and fun. The DLC is very needed though.

Miners are alright, but the maps are far too lacking in trees to make much use of their deploy anywhere ability to be able to use them as effective flankers. They might be more useful if you could essentially plant them somewhere pre-deployment and have them spring out when you want them to. Haven't used their grenade version, but ironbreakers put on quite a light show with theirs.

I tend to favor quarrelers since they fire over top of your other troops and are highly effective against anything without heavy armor. If the AI is bringing a lot of heavy armor and monsters though I'll start upping my thunderer numbers.

Given that I've not been happy with any of the Total War games since Empire I'm going to give this a miss. They really need a new engine. Shogun2 and Napoleon wasn't bad and I was fond of what they tried to do with the multiplayer in the former (which they now seem to have entirely given up on) but everything else has been pretty disappointing. The melee just doesn't feel good because everything's a big clump and the little 1v1 locked animations look pretty dumb. You could kind of forgive it in Shogun because of muh honorabu samurai but even in Shogun FotS was the best.
