It's definitely one of the best experiences of my childhood. Back then, the idea that there were these hidden items in the game was unbelievable. And then finding all the eggs and being told it was for the sequel was fucking mindblowing.
But beside that, the game always felt like there were secrets in every room. The game just forced you to pay attention to everything, and a hyperactive kid's imagination made every discovery pure ecstasy. Even when I found everything, I was 100% convinced the game had more to offer behind the map. The things kids talk about on playgrounds. Like I thought on Rusty bucket bay that you could release the ship by opening the gates and go to the island seen on the end credits scene. I always thought there was shit like big ice keys hidden behind paintings and everything.
As long as I wait 5+ years between every playthrough, it's still as fun as that first time even though I've seen the maps torn apart with map editors. Some naive part of me still thinks if I do some specific steps in sequence, it will make something appear or something.
I don't know, but there are a lot of gears to consider when thinking about what makes Banjo good, and a lot of it transcends level design that can be considered good at face-value to me.

I got my copies on PC and WiiU because I'm longing for that experience of playing a Rare game on a Nintendo console again, but man, it just drives home how different Nintendo has become.
The Nintendo of yesteryear was trpying to push the graphics envelope in direct competition with other console makers, partnering with Silicon Graphics to bring high end 3D to the consumer market. NOJ studios were writing the 3D video game bible, creating the examples that everyone had to follow. NoA wasn't a glorified localization branch memeifying every translation and refusing to bring over games out of laziness. They actual produced stuff, you had people like Ken Lobb going to studios and getting things like Killer Instinct and Perfect Dark off the ground.
It's just a sad state of affairs now. About the only thing the current Nintendo has in common is getting killed by Playstation.

One, who gives a shit about reviewers. It's not like they had any credibility to begin with and it's not even like they get that much more access than any random schmuck these days.
Two, I seriously doubt that this game, or any genre revival thing, will ever get poor reviews. Reviewers don't seem to know shit about any of these kinds of games. They raved about Pillars of Eternity despite most cRPG fans seeming to come away a bit disappointed. I'll bet the Tim Schafer point-n-clicks have high scores, and probably Mighty Number 9 when and if that game ever comes out despite the fact that it looks terrible.
Since "game reviewer" seems to be the dumping ground of useless degrees for people who don't like or play video games, they never have a reference for the genre that's supposed to be being revived, so they just assume it's good because they have zero perspective.

No idea, I think they were shooting for 5 world minimum, but with the Retrosixtyfourus arcade being an 8 total affair, i'd guess 8 worlds and a final showdown with the quiz. I think they recently reconfirmed that it's "Over 5 worlds" which likely means 5 real worlds, a tutorial world, a hub world, and maybe an area before the final battle like Cauldron Keep.
I think if the worlds are as large as we've seen of the jungle world and also varied, there shouldn't be a problem with main content. It'll be somewhere between Kazooie and Tooie in length, I'll say 25-30 hours.
