When games are not well known, obviously there will be a much smaller number of people discussing it, and it is likely that the majority of the group that discusses it would be fans of the game since it has their attention without being marketed.
But if the game is well known, you would obviously get more people to pay attention it. And that means you get people from a wide variety of demographics to come and judge it by their standards.
So basically little known games tends to be somewhat of a circlejerk, while well known games is under the scrutiny of numerous different people.
Obvious as people stop paying attention to the games or when the game gets old, it gets settled down back again to a much smaller group, which more often than not would be the fans of the game.
This is how ignorant people get the impression of the "/v/ cycle" when in reality it is just demographics change in threads
