You get a loot box every time you level up. It takes about an hour or two of playing to gain a level. Far as I could tell, the curve of EXP doesn't increase after 20. It's still good.

True, but they've introduced it for the randomization factor. They cannot sell crates unless the mechanic of getting new content is random. If they've wanted to add non-cosmetic shit to the progression system they would have done it from the beginning. Doing this after the launch breaks the leveling system. It's in all their games, Battlefield 4, Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age Inquisition.

Leveling doesn't take that long, even at high levels, due to experience cap.
When you get a dupe, they give you in-game currency instead, so you can but the items you want anyway.
In the beta time alone, I had both the main skins that I wanted, and tons of extras and emotes.
I guarantee that by the end of the first week I'll have all of them again.
Plus, by the time the first new hero gets announced I'll probably have enough to buy all of their skins, too.

This is totally going to be the next TF2 "Pay now, free-to-play later" game that people flock to.
Once sales pitter down, as well as some of the interest, they're all set to open the floodgates to the "Now play the latest eSports FPS! ABSOLUTELY FREE!" spiel, and rake in extra dosh.
Bonus points to Blizzard if they don't add some kind of trade system, to keep people pumping money with gambling-style addiction to purchase these very cheap boxes for a shot at one of those must-have items.

It's mostly a personal preference, but most people that smurf don't bother buying skins or what not so it's always half and half.
What I do in most games is buy a color mesh that matches the map I play in for a slight advantage.
So games make that error or try to avoid it but it's still abusable.
Even some skins are banned on tournaments.
I don't get the hate for hats.
Thanks to them games like Dota and TF2 doesn't have shit like "Pay 10€ to get this ebin champion or farm for weeks" and still recieve great support.
