Looking for FPSes that are better than Doom 2016.
Really looking for something fast with satisfying gunplay and decent level design. So please no Half-Life and shit like that.
I've already played Painkiller and the original Doom which were great.
What are your fast FPS recommendations /v/?

Blood is pretty good from the game feel to the levels. It's really difficult but it has a fun comedy-horror atmosphere

Sorry but Brutal Doom really is garbage, at least if you play Doom 1's campaign with it. Maybe there are community maps where it ends up being great that I don't know of.

I'd go as far to say map design is actually better than Doom, and game feels more difficult (I'm on Ultraviolence equivalent).

It's literally everything I wanted out of a modern doom and it's actually harder given the fact that you actually have to aim

Doom in general really isn't all that special. It was something different for the time but nothing worth treating with the reverence it gets now.
Particularly the level design, I don't know why people gush out the asshole about it. They look complex from a map, but most of them are either fairly simplistic or have a lot redundant pathing. Holy shit, you press a button and a wall slides out with some pickups, gotyay.

You're just looking for build engine games and Serious Sam.
Therefore these are the only shooters you'll find that fit that citeria (which you haven't played).

Those are both just arena shooters like Painkiller so they don't have good level design.

Duke Nukem 3D
These are build engine games with good level design. But all three involve comedy and memeing protagonists.
Heretic
It's okay. Hexen is fun but I hope you like "wonder-what-that-switch-did" level design.

I second all these games especially Serious Sam and Shadow Warrior (original and reboot). Duke Nukem, Heretic, and Blood are childhood favourites of mine as well.
I don't have anything more to add to the list though, thankfully Shadow Warrior 2 will be coming out in the next year and it looks great.

Wolfenstein TNO, but it has worse level design, if by level design you mean the linearity of it. The New Blood is worse still, but is okay-ish if you just want to have another Wolfenstein.
Shadow Warrior has a better map design than Wolfenstein TNO, but later enemies is too bullet spongey.
Other alternatives are Hard Reset, Serious Sam series, and as much as hated Brutal Doom on /v/, it's actually quite decent.
