When I started a new game after the stream to practice more early game stuff off-stream and this guy was hanging around the side entrance to the Aurora. I nope'd the fuck down to the mushroom forest for the moonpool fragments and then off to the mountain islands for the Seamoth upgrade station fragments before I even returned.

Torpedoes only stun it temporarily and the only lethal weapon you get is the knife. It takes like two and a half diamond knives to kill a Leviathan Reaper andthey respawn now.

IIRC you can shoot it in the head with the stasis rifle to stop it (only the head works) and the Seamoth electric defense can shake it off when it grabs the vehicle
